Hello,
I couldnt find anything on the internet about anyone using a m5od-2r in a 240. So I was wondering if anyone had and how well the shifter lines up along with what driveshaft they used or had a custom one made? And if not why would this trans not be ideal?
Thanks!

Pretty sure thats the same transmission that was in my F150 and for starters the gearing sucks for anything other than a truck, really short gears except for 5th. You can change out your final drive to try and offset it though. The bell housing is massive on it with a large piece at the top I think would interfere with the fire wall. You would have to get a driveshaft made which isnt terrible you just need to measure about 12 times to make sure you are spot on and then have DSS or someone similar make it for you.

Why do you want to do that?

Thanks you for your reply. I was just wondering due to I'm getting one with the 302 I'm buying and wondering if I could use it at all. So it's possible but not a fun time I see. Would it be easier to find a t5 that would bolt up? Probably still have to make a driveshaft but probably wouldn't have issues fitting it I believe I saw someone using a t5?

The driveshaft is probably the easiest part. If youre getting a 302 with that transmission that is it coming out of a Bronco,Ranger or F150? If its the truck version the thing was built for torque and is dirt slow, not even close to the Mustang 302 of the same time period.

That is true i didnt think of that, I'll have to double check. If it is the truck motor is there anything "simple"(inatke, exhaus, ecu, overbore, turbo) i could do for more hp? im not seeing too much on the internet:(
edit:sorry i meant cheap not simple

To answer you're original question: worst case, you build a new trans tunnel. Everything else is easy, assuming it's a hydraulic clutch.
But if you're dead-set on a Ford 302, you're probably better off just getting a 5.0L motor and trans from a Mustang. They rev higher, have more hp and better gearing than the truck motors, and will be nearly as cheap. I'll bet swap part are more common too.
Head over to the SilvaV8 forums. You'll find more specific info there than here.
edit: SilvaV8 is dead now. Sad.

I see thank you tons. This guy just offered me 2 engines and a trans for $700 so I was seeing if it was worth it at all. Really appreciate the help
