View Full Version : My 'cheap' Ka-T with 'potential'-->input wanted

My project is a fairly cheap ~230-240 KA-T, with one caveat- not to waste $$ if I decide to upgrade (i.e. no rrfpr, tinsy turbo, etc.). My goals are to have a car I can run autocross and roadcourses with...although more of a focus on roadcourses (I've actually got a job offer (No, I'm not a good driver) to work on a road course for 10 weeks--with course time!) .
So far I have:
1.)Saab 9000 intercooler (big and skinny) --> $50
2.)18 370cc injectors (I have a homemade setup to flow test and will use the 4 best flowing ones, and sell the rest)
3.)The stock fuel pump + my NON-turbo z32 300zx fuel pump (easilly flowed enough for 200+rwhp cost around $40)...I need to see if I can run both pumps simultaneously, I will also run huge power wires to the pumps (this definitely increased available voltage/flow to my DSM).

4.)Manifold/Turbo... (prefferably topmount, but I can deal with bottom. I want a TD-05/6 18 or 20g, just because I'm more familiar with the characteristics of TD-0X turbos, maybe a T3/T4 if I can figure out wtf the garrett trim/sizing means in terms of hp/lag. If anyone can compare various trims with mitsu td-05/6 14/16/18/20g that I know(<<silent cry for help)) it would be appreciated.

5.)Fuel tuning, etc. I love S-AFC's, but prefer E-proms so I can tune timing AND fuel (ITC's are $$ and hard to find). I plan on setting my timing back around 5 deg., and just running a mesh 'ring' around the MAF (about 25% more surface area total) in a larger diameter tube, eventually going with a Z32 MAF, when I get the EPROM/S-AFC. Also colder plugs(NGK-which ones?) and a restricted oild feed line (1/6?) are my plan.

I have other plans for susp/handling, but don't want to discuss these in this thread.

**If I left anything out, or generally had some stupid idea, please LMK, and give your comments.**

MAFS
I'm thinking that the larger diameter maf tubing will offset the fuel managing systems ie safc and e-manage.

TURBO
With the turbos you will probably find similar characteristics if you go with a t3 turbo or even a t3/t4. Search for exact numbers ie. .48 or .63 exhaust housing in which less lag in the .48.

FUEL
Do you plan on having one pump's output hook up to the next pump's input? Because if you are it might just give out the flow rate of whichever pump is hooked up last. Lastly, how did you manage to get 18 injectors?

the pumps would probably be paralell, not in series...as for the injectors, I just searched.....and searched....I'll probably sell most of them once I get what I need :)

why run a mitsubishi turbo? they are pretty much all setup for efficiency at higher boost levels...
why not run like a T28 or something? it spools much faster than a 20g and can make 300rwhp on a KA24 without much effort, less power with less boost of course (you'll need bigger injectors than the 370s though)
