my s14 is making a weird noise after i installed a light weight flywheel and the spec stage 1 clutch kit. i presume that everything is installed correctly, but it's making a weird sound. it goes like this....tak tak tak tak tak tak tak. when i engage the clutch, the sound goes away. i'm not sure if it makes the same sound with the car is going, because i can't hear it beacuse of the exhaust. but so far its making the tak tak tak tak, when the car is neutral and the clutch is disengage. :aw: if any one know what i'm talking about, please help me......Thanks

Are you feeling any vibration in the clutch pedal?

did you replace the TOB and grease everything properly...?

and did you use locktite or somekind of threadlocker on the flywheel bolts?

Man, I heard so many problems from clutch jobs. I have a problem too, and I think I didn't align the driveshaft correctly. There is so many things that can go wrong with a clutch job.

youre supposed to mark it before you take it off the diff/tranny....

its just b/c its harmonicaly balanced...so there is a small probability that you can get vibrations from it..

i never aligned mine and i never had any vibrations

its not coming from the driveshaft, no vibration or anything is coming from the driveshaft. the only part that is making a the weird sound is coming from the clutch area, it makes a tak tak tak tak sound when the clutch is disengage. but nothing, when i step on the clutch pedal to engage the clutch. also it was a new TOB, so i don't think is that......hopefully not.....its weird, it drives fine, nothing is wrong with it, but the thing that is bothering is the sound. because i'm not sure if there is problem with the clutch, so that i wont F it up...........oh and also there are no sign of vibration from the clutch pedal

Does it make a sound when you leave it in gear and decelerates? If it makes the same sound then you got the same problem as me. It does sound like it is coming from the clutch, but it's actually driveshaft alignment. Since my tranny is having trouble going into reverse also, I am thinking of getting it rebuilt the next time my clutch quits. Just cause it drives fine does mean it is. So get that problem checked up. You don't want a blown tranny now don't you?

at least take the time to drop it and see if anything is visibly wrong...

i wish i had...but i didnt and had a serious problem that led to my clutch exploding and it tearing the flywheel right off the crank

Lightweight flywheels chatter, i have the blitz clutch/flywheel and it does the same thing when not depressed but theres nothing wrong with it. As long as theres no vibration or noise when actually pressing the clutch in I wouldnt worry about it.

^correct

Lightweight flywheels like to chatter, it's a small trade-off. My exedy twin hyper is the exact same.

*edit* this is old as [email protected]#t, sorry

damn i have the EXACT same problems as the thread starter, a friend of mine told me something might be loose, i was getting pretty scared, because the noise sounded pretty bad, no vibration, no nothing, just that tak tak tak noise wen clutch is not pressed in, but after seeing this thread im an very relieved to hear that its the lightened flywheel, and that its something normal...btw i got a ACT street trim clutch and a fidanza lightened flywheel =)

not really loud wen ur inside the car while idling, but it is kinda loud wen u stand outside next to ur engine, expecially in an enclosed space or a quiet area, that was one of the main reasons why i thought something was wrong wit my clutch, was cause of loudness of it

if you are really worried, its not that difficult to drop the tranny and take a look just to make sure everything is fine... believe me i wish i had, but i got lazy

i had a fidanza on my old ka with a oem clutch, no noise at all, and i loved it... coolest thing is how you can just buy a new surface plate instead of getting it grinded down/resurfaced
