View Full Version : How many SR20 Blocks do you think were made?

I was wondering...

On the side of the SR20DET block, engrave is SR20 followed by a number... Does that number represent the serial number of the block? If it does, how many do you think were made? I have 3 blocks at home, 1 redtop (134xxx), 2 blacktops (204xxx, 248xxx)... That would mean AT least 248000 S13 blocs were made, unless FWD and AWD count in the total..

what do you guys think?

I'd like to, but then I'd lose people's confidence in my reprisal.
It sucks, doesn't it? I know that you'll keep this experience in mind in the future. I'm just hoping others learn from your mistake. (Sidenote - thanks for posting about how much it sucks. Believe it or not, I can make it worse.)

Halo: my block number is SR20|120453W

Thanks Kev!! :)

I can now say that the redtop I got is a 92... I am almost 100% sure. Seems like engine production numbers to me. :)

And, no, I did not get a stand alone.. why that question?

Now how about dates?

if we can peoples Block #, and if they have a confirmed date that they know there engine was produced, like in a 93/94 etc. vehicle, that way we can judge the age of our SR's.

we know black tops are in the 200,000's so that means 1994 right? not totally sure.

HaLo

YEs...

MrMephistopheles 180sx is a 1992 with number 120453.

Now, if there is a way to confirm some other numbers, we could make a nice reference.

This is definately one of the more interesting threads I've read in a while. so far this is all the info that's been collected on the board:

s13 redtop 91-93
134XXX
120453 made in 1992
008621
048411
032181

s13 blacktop 94-98
204xxx
248xxx

I think if people who bought clips could find the VIN number and post it, that it would help out a lot also. reading a VIN number (http://www.vinguard.org/vin.htm)

Even though after reading that information you can find out what year your clip came from but it could also help out the people who bought engine sets also. (thats also assuming VIN numbers are universal)

VIN's arent universal, so i doubt it would work

am I the only one who thinks that in a few years this will all pass, kind of like the honda craze faded a bit, and something else will take its place.
Drifting will still ocurr, but it won't be the IT thing to do.
s13's will be in american junkyards and garages with blown sr20s or wrecked chassis with tein coilovers...
And maybe it will be cheaper than ever???

cause everyon I talk to thinks this thing is going to go on forever and engines will keep getting more expensive as they become more "rare" and accessories will continue to go down in price as they are moved in more volume in the states?

this is on some note relevant to the issue at hand.

HaLo
10-15-2004, 08:44 PM
yeah, it will pass.. but who cares, i was driving a 240sx before the craze started and i will be driving a 240sx when it's gonna be long gone. :)

I'd take good care of that car...
Oh well.. Have fun in SD for me.It's only been 6 months since I left and I miss it a ton.

woot^2, Regular gas off base is ~¥112/liter. Dunno how many liters in a gallon, but with www.xe.com, I'm sure you can get a guesstimate about gas prices here.

Let's have some more people with S13 SRs submit their block numbers (and original chassis year if they know it).

Sr won't get that rare. dude you know how many rwd SR powered cars were produced??? we as car people represent a small market (on a big scale) compare to end consumer. so we have a steady supply of SR's for a while. if it really bothers you get a block and rebuild it.
