its only when the car is moving, every gear, even when its not in gear, it speeds up as i speed up, and it sounds like a ticking, but it isnt coming from the motor, sounds like it is coming from around the transmission. I was suspecting the throwout bearing, not sure why, but i was wondering if maybe the bearing might be bad, i have had the same one for a little over a year.

it almost sounds like it is something attatched to the driveshaft and slapping up against the tunnel, but i concluded aftr driving 200 miles like this it hasnt changed...
it doesnt sound like its something thats going to kill anyone if your wondering why i still drive it..
please help me, im at school so i cant just raise the car and check everything anytime...

BTW it is an 89 240 w/ a red-top, i replaced the clutch just before i started school... i dont think any of my other mods would matter, but if they do let me know and i will list them

Cliffs Notes: wierd noise, sounds like TO bearing... HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

It doesn't sound like the throwout bearing to me. The Throwout bearing is only used when you press the clutch pedal. When mine went out on me, it made no noise at all when I was driving, but if I depressed the clutch pedal, there was a low whirring noise coming from the transmission. I was told that if you hear a whirring like that only when the clutch is depressed, it is pretty much guaranteed to be the throwout bearing. Also, is your sound speed dependent or rpm dependent? do you hear it when you are stopped? have you looked under your car to see if anything visible is causing the sound?

i havent been able to look underneath it yet, but when my car stops the noise stops... and at certain angles it seems like the noise stops... for example onmy way back up here to school, while going downhill it was un noticeable at times, it is speed dependent

check to see if something is touching the driveshaft

Sounds like fun!

But if it is varying with speed, that could be some bad stuff. Check for anything hitting the trans, could be some loose bracket or something.

That's not good. I would change your diff oil, but it may already be too late. Once you get some slop in your differential gears, they will wear pretty fast. Hopefully it's just a little low on fluid, otherwise, plan on getting a new diff.
