About 2 weeks after replacing a failed injector Im getting this loud rapid tick from under the valve cover. The car has been hard to start in the mornings as well. The sound starts once the car starts to get warm and when it is warm. For a few days it went away but now it just getting worse and worse. I have changed the oil twice since the failed injector flooded the cylinder and pulled the valve cover to see if anything looked wrong but nothing seemed bad. Today I looked down at the boost gauge and at idle it was only reading 10 in/hg instead of the 18-20 it normally reads.
The car is still running quite strong though so I am puzzled as to what it is. It sounds bad though. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try changing the oil again, but use 20W 50 oil and see if that helps.

My head was ticking very loudly too...I had to replace my entire head because the Cams and the U's that cams sit in were worn away more than just bad. Just somethin to think about.
my head was ticking when i started my car..it hadn't been started in about a month. then i took it to a drift event and it went away

Sounds like lash adjusters to me start up and is real loud right? And if you rev it it will crack real loud really quickly and then no sound iuntil your rev again right? if that sound like the description of your problem then must be your lash adjusters. rebuild the vavle train if that is the case. eventually they will start chipping and flaking and you will then have chunks of the lashers on your cams and bearing seats and then pow engine give out. IT happend to my 180 oil flush will help with the flakes but you have to replace the lash adjusters IF THAT SOUNDS LIKR THE PROBLEM.

His problem is that it ticks loud ONCE its warmed up not when cold.
I have the problem that you guys are describing. I had a leaky injector and my oil became diluted in fuel.
After a hard night of driving I heard a ticking coming from the back of the valve cover. When I started it the next day it only ticked for a few seconds when started. It now does this everytime I start it when cold. Suggestions?

i have a ticking too, im sure its always there but my exhaust is so loud in the car i can barely hear it while driving, ive been told its the lifters, and that is what i think it could be.
how hard would that be to fix?

Dont know how loud it is but if u can hear it from inside the car, then its not just the lifters needing to be bled. Could bad valve guides cause it to tick too?

Update: The low vacuum was caused by a loose connection to the boost gauge. I used a quart of this oil flush I saw at napa auto parts and changed to a thicker 20w50 as suggested. The oil looked a bit nastier than the last oil change so I guess that the flush loosened up some gunk. I started the car and the noise went away for about 15 minutes and then it came back. I kept driving it for about 2 hours and the noise is slowly going away. Thanks for all the help guys!
