View Full Version : What's Happening?

A few nights ago, me, my brother and our friend were discussing the differences between the Nissan and Toyota community coming back from our auto tech class. I have an s13 coupe, my brother has 2 ae86's and our friend has an 86. Though we all like and have respect for each car, we noticed a difference of the type of enthusiasts each community had. This forum and many other Nissan/240 forums have an unusual amount of people flaming on other people for not knowing everything there is to know about 240's. Toyota has their share of people doing the same but most people try to help and teach other people about the car. We believe that the reason why this is happening is because the "Noobies" that are getting into 240's have the Honda/Acura attitude (where they came from). Here in the Bay Area, many many honda acura owners are trying to trade or sell their cars for 240's and 86's and jump on the new "drift" bandwagon. The reason why we think there are a lot of those types of people in the Nissan community is because it is still fairly easy to find a 240 rather than an 86. In the Toyota community you'll find enthusiasts who are 16-21, but alot of them are above age and respect the car/sport/ and enthusiast. In this community you find that there are alot of younger people who just want to have a "drift" car with an sr20, and doesn't know anything about it. On the other hand, there are a handfull of knowledgable vets in our community and those are the people I respect. Do you feel the same way?

Yeah same here. I learned alot about corollas when we took out the t-vis efi, a/c, p/s and put on dual side draft mikuni carbs and also did the body work. unfortunately, the engine blew a few days later. new stock 4age in with trd headers.

And yes.. i have heard of paragraph sentencing structure and run on whatever ;)

I think another main problem is from video games like Need for Speed Underground that have brought the 240 into the spotlight... its nice to be able to screw around in one in the games but hell now we got the honda/acura kids noticing the 240sx...

and SRS has just did the same thing by throwing in the apex 86.. one again nice to be able to play one and see what the game developers do to these cars...

but again its starting to attract a crowd that some dont like to see much off

No wonder you got pinked.

You raise an excellent point, Mr. "CHOUKI". I find it quite amazing that newbies like pinkerton up there like to mouth off like they know it all and they're OG, but they haven't been around quite as long as the real OGs.

It's all nothing more than people trying to act hard and attribute the "I'm the shit" label to themselves in order to make up for other inadequacies in their life (lack of girth/length, no gf, mom hates them, etc)

Which, I guess, can be attributed to them being Honduhh boyz.. but just like our scene, notall Honduhhh boyz are bad.. I have quite a few Honduhhh friends who know their shit, have clean, fast cars and respect other enthusiasts.

Or, perhaps, per your other astute observation, maybe its because newer owners are all younger, and thus inherently more immature.

Or maybe they're all just a bunch of dipshits.

I dunno. Let's turn this into a sociological debate. Discuss!

Who cares.. I stop caring about the "sence" a long time ago.

I do agree, a lot of them are very young, c'mon they dont even remember the Juice Crew, Cold Crush, etc...

There's always going to be new people jumping on the "wagon" , asking questions that have been asked xxxxx times. Lame people like MakakiS13 who need to reply to everything and post pic's of herself. ANd dipshits like Lugegnz...

they don't make em' like they used to, this supposed to be the new school?

i got pinked cause i had to go for a joke. i pay the price happily. pinked for being dense says it all, shirly.

as for the slams on my post... we are social creatures that gravitate towards groups that encourage our habitual obsessions. cars, comps, drugs, guitars, whatever.

i doubt it is based on brand at all. instead, i'd bet on the quality of forums in terms of show vs go and rice vs nice. there is a right way to do things and a wrong way. some forums encourage stupid APC gimicky bullcrap while others are hard on people and tend to cull the weak from the herd.

the honda/acura attitude was created by the flood of ricers that have since moved on to "dorifto" bullcrap. mislead arrogance is a product of ignorance, that's all.

its human nature that has dick to do with brand loyalty, that was my point that i would've let alone if captain kazuo hadn't prodded me while i was bored at work.

p.s. lastly, i was KIDDING in the first post. your sarcasm detector needs new batteries.

I kinda get the feeling that the Honda crowd guys are getting older (24-30) and buying other cars now like the WRX, Evo, 350Z etc. Some still own their Hondas as well. They tend to spend more money and own clean cars because they have more money to spend.

The 240SX has kinda stepped in as the younger crowd (16-23) car of choice because of the popularity, low cost and hype.

To the average person they can not tell the difference between a modified Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Mitsubishi etc. - they just assume it is some "immature kids" driving around looking for a race or showing off. So every time someone does something stupid, the public views all import enthusiasts under the same catagory.

Everything has the good and the bad so catagorizing is never really right.

Funny, I never insinuated that it was based on brand in the first place; rather, I generalized groups to get my point across.

No matter which group you go to, you will see the same shit. How do you think people on Club4AG would react to a guy saying he just bought/wants to buy a AE86 and he plans to get a CF Hood, some black Panasport/Watanabe wheels, and slap a FUJIWARATOFU sticker on the side?

The same way we would.

How would they react to someone asking about a 20V swap? Prolly tell the bastard to search. Just like we would.

It'd be like if someone hopped onto Honda-Tech and asked how to do a LS-VTEC swap...

same shit different badge. My whole point was no matter where you go you get both sides of it.

its human nature that has dick to do with brand loyalty, that was my point that i would've let alone if captain kazuo hadn't prodded me while i was bored at work.

p.s. lastly, i was KIDDING in the first post. your sarcasm detector needs new batteries.

What actually happened was my sarcasm detector exploded when I came up to your post. so I had a little trouble figuring things out.

My point there was your post was copping a "better-than-you" attitude that simply wasn't necessary. Acting hard on a forum doesn't get you any brownie points.

Omar summed it up best:

i'll second the acting hard on a forum. its easy for people to type words. give it a rest, e-thuggin is just lame.

all these bandwagon jumpers and "noobs" were the same thing in the honda scene. a way for someone to "stand" out in the crowd, yet they all did the same stupid shit. there are "real" people in the honda scene, and there are kids who got money and a small brain. now that 240s are showing up more and more in magazines, games, tv, whatever, they want something that is "different". so they jump in with the same stupid mentality. shove a bunch of name brand crap or fake name brand crap on a car and wow they are super takumi drifter blue aura homo.

i think whatever car crowd you go to, it will be the same. people that are into their cars and could care less about "main stream" that are just there to have fun, and people who want to pose as being super elite im better than you because i got super JDM stuffz all over my car.

i hate the fact a lot of stupid idiots are buying 240s and doing ridiculous shit to them. i hate the fact i see these idiots on forums saying ridiculous shit. i understand when someone wants to learn and ask a question, but when one of these guys asks something really idiotic or is one of those "use search!!" "flame flame" "i know everything cuz i got 100k posts losers when they really dont know the answer themself. it just gets lame.

i had a convo with art about this a while ago. we were joking around, saying we are going to sell our cars and buy cressidas to smash on everyone. a good point was brought up, eventually all these idiots will crash and realize drifting isnt as easy as playing a arcade game. the people buying sr20det's to be a part of the crowd and crying when they dont understand why it wont smog. they will be gone eventually while i will still be driving my piece of shit 90 hatch.

I must say... I was a honda guy...and still am...

Had a 91 DA Integra

B18A- eagle rods
je 9.0:1 pistons
Ported and polished head all stock except crower retainers

Rev Hard manifold
T3 turbo
3 in Downpipe
starion/conquest front mount
HKS Sequential BOV
Edelbrock Intake Manifold
FMU
SAFC

Not to mention countless other upgrades...

carbon fiber hood and jdm one piece headlights!

I loved that car to death. I loved the community. www.g2ic.com was the greatest web community i have ever seen. Most everyone was great and helpful not to mention the "TEG TIPS" section. I cannot say enough about g2ic.com...but then if you link your ass over to honda-tech.com the world flip-flops and suddenly everyone is a mean flamer you know? It's weird.

I did like the honda community for the most part. The second hand parts are cheap and readily available. The only part that annoyed me about my honda is that the b18a's open deck design kept pissing me off. I used to dream of having an h22.

However Zilvia is a great community. NICO forums used to just irritate me to death. But after I found my 240 I found you guys!

coming from an OG.....

i think this thread is absolute bullshit.

who cares where someone is coming from, what they have and what they HAD.

the point here is, what are they doing. moreso, why do you care? how about this on for size:

FUCK THE SCENE, enjoy your car and do what YOU like to it.

i hate hearing people say that EX honda owners turning nissan are making the scene BAD. who CARES about the scene in the first place? just be happy with what you have and fuck everyone else.

i think its funny when people do trendy shit, like hop on bandwagons.. but, what if someone had a honda and now owns a nissan.. and is actually putting effort into learning the sport and is doing a good job at it? WELL, if thats the case.. good.

the logic here is, fuck trend and fuck stereotypes. do what makes you happy and block all this bullshit scene stuff out. this is why i dont care to go to shows or any events anymore, because im tired of listening to all this aimless shit. make friends, make your connections, build up your car, learn, and have fun.. but fuck all this hype and trend, because its a waste of time.

Just last night I was at a local car meet here in town. After arriving, one of the first cars I walked up to was a black 240 with a DET swap. As I approached the vehicle I could hear some kids say "Oh look they go right for the JDM shit"

Whatever, I thought to myself. I continued down the row of cars and came across a pretty wide variety of imports. There was even a hyundia avante turbocharged with a mitsubishi DSM turbo, custom manifold, downpipe, intercooler piping. Was pretty trick. And the cool thing was he was running the stock ecu boosting about 7 pounds.

Overall, there was more 240's than anything else there. Probably about 6, including S13's, and a few S14's. Many were primered up, with engine swaps. Reminded me of a long time ago when you saw mostly civics like that. As the night went on a few other cool cars showed up, an EVO, a WRX, and even some old school supras. Of course there was a few of the typical rice mobiles, but they were ridiculed so fast the majority of them left.

What I'm getting at is the scene is widely diverse. If your so worried about being on the bandwagon, or not being cutting edge on the JDM scene, sell your car. You bought it for the wrong reason. I drive my 240 because I enjoy it. Not to fit in to a scene, or go along with every other mindless lemming.

lemming describes it best. people are right when they say its human nature to want to fit in and have the same stuff. my problem isnt with the nissan or honda or daiwoo crowd, its with the ignorant. if you seem like you legitimately need some hard to find information or specifics or anything that seems like a good educated question i will post positively. i believe in weeding out the ignorant dicks that post things like "how can i put in sr20det in my car" or "has anyone ever turboed their 240?" or "what will my quarter mile be if i run a 600 dry shot of naaaaaawwwwwws" I have no respect for them just as I have no respect for people I see in every day life that do similar things or ask stupid ignorant questions on the same level. these people get stuff handed to them all their life and think they can be lazy and not read and search and have someone spoonfeed everything to them. basically... "not on my watch". I will however try to help build the community for those who deserve it no matter what they drive. it might seem like a high and mighty way to say it which im not really high and mighty because we all know that we all start someplace. we all started uneducated at some point and needed to learn. the thing is the ones who learned were the ones who read. I didnt buy my car because anyone likes it. in fact i could care less because I like it. if i do somethign to my car its gonna be because its unique to my personal tastes and it makes me happy. I got my car because I read the specs... somethign this light... rwd... easily modified and great potential with appealing aesthetics for cheap? mine! I used to have a honda prelude which i got at the time to be a tradeoff of being different from the crowd and part availability. i was a noob, yea. thing is I learned, i wanted to be unique and always had something cool i did to that car and it was really just kept very very clean. now i have my 240 and ive got the same attitude with more knowledge and a better goal.....

cliffnotes: fuck you, do what you want and poke the ignorant with sharp objects

EDIT: for those who like paragraphs grammer spelling and spaces eat shit :)

CHOUKI240

well hopefully in a few years 240s will get harder to find. And hopefully the people that bought them to jump on into this community will eventually sell it and jump into the next "trend" of cars. The people who love driving this car, and have it not just to be one in the crowd, noobie or vet, keep it going.

10-08-2004, 01:31 PM
in a similar sense about trying to fit in. Two of my friends picked up a turbo2 FC and an s13 coupe. Flat out they asked me "how did you learn so much about automotive tech and tips", and i thought to myself it took me asking dumb questions and researching to learnI told them to check forums and read articles. From owning a honda to a nissan, the only difference is that honda has had more time to allow posers and wannabes to try and have the look. Just like v6 camaros and 'stangs with the pipe kit to have the sound. Its just that americans go after whats popular and exploit it. I say we take this phrase and apply it "parents dont raise a child a community raises a child" if we flame nooBs all the time, and those who arent to sure, they are just gonna continue the cycle. unless youe old_s13 or other sh*t talkers on zilvia who make threads more fun.

I got my car because I read the specs... somethign this light... rwd... easily modified and great potential with appealing aesthetics for cheap? mine! Thats EXACTLY why I changed from my b14 to the s13...

Once again like many have said here... if you buy the car simply because of how any body kits there are for it or the fact that you saw one at a show and it looked totally cool... then you need to rethink your purchase

I drove a s13 then a w11 b14 then a 2.5 impressa and last a 98 m3 after that I loved the handling and the feel of the rwd SR... AWD wasnt any fun and the w11 b14 didnt change my opinion simply because the b14 is faster... it wasnt that fun at all. And the m3 was way too expensive.

Reseach then drive before you buy... never buy just because its "cool"

*I think this good enough... no more posting for me this month*

Take the advice of a few wise ones in this thread. Quit whining and overanalyzing. Go find a curvy road and let some steam out.

Why are you so concerned with what other people do with cars like yours? You have to realize that YOU are the only one who even pays attention to it.
