Hey guys...
I'm trying to gauge interest and see how many of you out in 240sx land have the same tastes as me and would consider buying the following wheels...
They're made by CCW (Complete Custom Wheel), which is a VERY good and reputable wheel company that makes a lot of racing wheels and extremely nice wheels for high end cars (http://www.ccwheel.com).
The wheel is 16" x 8" with a 4.25" backspacing, meaning it has .25" positive offset, which is roughly +6mm offset. I have no idea about the fitment on an S13 but I'm reasonably sure these would fit in an S14 chasis without fender rolling, especially if the tires you choose to mount aren't any wider than a 235 series.
According to my calculations, these wheels with 245/45/16 tires on the rear would stick out 15 mm more than the wheels/tires I'm using right now (225/50/15, 7" wide +11 mm offset wheels), and 16 mm more in the front with 215/45/16 tires (compared to a 205/55/15 tire on a +17mm 7" wheel). The wheels I'm using right now aren't even completely flush with the S14 fenders, so I'm pretty positive that with these wheels and 245 tires in the rear and 215 in the front it'd JUST be perfectly flush and wouldn't require fender rolling. 15 mm is only ~ 6/10"...not that much at all.
Anyway, the wheel is a FORGED, welded 2-piece wheel that was originally intended for the Datsun 240z. They are extremely high quality and nothing like almost all of the wheels on the market today in that they're forged and built custom. They are only available in 4 x 114.3 lug pattern, and they weigh 16 pounds which is very reasonable for a wide 16" rim. The entire wheel is polished to a mirror finish and it has a HUGE lip.
Only about 15 sets of these wheels were ever produced, and they haven't been produced since 1997. CCW has 2 of these wheels at their warehouse but that's it, and I talked to a guy named John there and he said that Bogart Racing Wheels (who apparently they're affiliated with) would probably be willing to make 2 more of these wheels so that I could buy a complete set...however, Bogart would be a LOT MORE APT to make these 2 more wheels if they had a few more people who were interested in buying a complete set of the same wheels...it just makes more sense to produce more wheels than to fire up the machines just for 2 wheels and one customer...That means there would need to be people committed to paying quite a bit of money for these clearly top of the line wheels. They'd go for around $900-$1000 a set with no tires, which i think is fairly reasonable considering their rarity, the fact that they're forged, and have a very hard to find offset. Top of the line equipment always costs top dollar.
Basically, i'm trying to find out how many if any of you would seriously be in the market for buying such wheels so I can call John and ask him to start having the wheels made/selling them...maybe we could even get them for a discounted rate (a la group buy).
Anyway, I'm sure many of you are dying to see what they actually look like :)
Here the beauties are.
