View Full Version : Gauging interest-Who here is interested in forged 16" x 8" low offset wheels?!?!

Hey guys...

I'm trying to gauge interest and see how many of you out in 240sx land have the same tastes as me and would consider buying the following wheels...

They're made by CCW (Complete Custom Wheel), which is a VERY good and reputable wheel company that makes a lot of racing wheels and extremely nice wheels for high end cars (http://www.ccwheel.com).

The wheel is 16" x 8" with a 4.25" backspacing, meaning it has .25" positive offset, which is roughly +6mm offset. I have no idea about the fitment on an S13 but I'm reasonably sure these would fit in an S14 chasis without fender rolling, especially if the tires you choose to mount aren't any wider than a 235 series.

According to my calculations, these wheels with 245/45/16 tires on the rear would stick out 15 mm more than the wheels/tires I'm using right now (225/50/15, 7" wide +11 mm offset wheels), and 16 mm more in the front with 215/45/16 tires (compared to a 205/55/15 tire on a +17mm 7" wheel). The wheels I'm using right now aren't even completely flush with the S14 fenders, so I'm pretty positive that with these wheels and 245 tires in the rear and 215 in the front it'd JUST be perfectly flush and wouldn't require fender rolling. 15 mm is only ~ 6/10"...not that much at all.

Anyway, the wheel is a FORGED, welded 2-piece wheel that was originally intended for the Datsun 240z. They are extremely high quality and nothing like almost all of the wheels on the market today in that they're forged and built custom. They are only available in 4 x 114.3 lug pattern, and they weigh 16 pounds which is very reasonable for a wide 16" rim. The entire wheel is polished to a mirror finish and it has a HUGE lip.

Only about 15 sets of these wheels were ever produced, and they haven't been produced since 1997. CCW has 2 of these wheels at their warehouse but that's it, and I talked to a guy named John there and he said that Bogart Racing Wheels (who apparently they're affiliated with) would probably be willing to make 2 more of these wheels so that I could buy a complete set...however, Bogart would be a LOT MORE APT to make these 2 more wheels if they had a few more people who were interested in buying a complete set of the same wheels...it just makes more sense to produce more wheels than to fire up the machines just for 2 wheels and one customer...That means there would need to be people committed to paying quite a bit of money for these clearly top of the line wheels. They'd go for around $900-$1000 a set with no tires, which i think is fairly reasonable considering their rarity, the fact that they're forged, and have a very hard to find offset. Top of the line equipment always costs top dollar.

Basically, i'm trying to find out how many if any of you would seriously be in the market for buying such wheels so I can call John and ask him to start having the wheels made/selling them...maybe we could even get them for a discounted rate (a la group buy).

Anyway, I'm sure many of you are dying to see what they actually look like :)

Here the beauties are.

I'm defenitely interested in this. I need a second set of wheels. If I can scrape up the money somehow, I'm in, but that's a big if.

As i said in the post they'd be between $900 and $1000. Keep in mind that these are custom made, NOT mass produced, and there are only 15 sets of these wheels in the world...they're rare, a lot more rare than JDM TYTE YO!1 wheels that you often see for sale. That, and they are forged with spun aluminum shells...very few wheels out there are forged and look this beautiful. Honestly, they're easily the nicest wheels I've seen available for 4 lug 240's...

John from CCW told me that if he did have a full set in stock he would have sold them to me for $900, but he said if he needed to have Bogart make up 2 more it'd cost more money just to make 2, so it'd be more like $1000...if there's a few COMMITTED people then the price may be more toward $900 because it's worth their while to produce some...So please, only say you're interested if a) you're in the market for wheels b) want the wheels, and c) have the money...

W00tw00t...
How serious are you about purchasing these wheels? Because if I could call John in a few days saying I have a definite 2 other people who want a complete set, they'd most assuredly start making some...
For me, I want these wheels so incredibly bad. All that's holding me back is whether or not they choose to make 2 more for me!

Yeah, they look sick on any RWD car.

Here's a pic of them on a '73 Datsun 240z...

http://hybridz.org/nuke/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=37478

They look a bit dirty in the pic, but that's only in contrast to their mirror-polish finish.

Now that I have a nice close up of one of the wheels, I'm thinkin someone can photoshop them onto a pic of my car :)

im getting more and more serious as this progresses. the other wheels that i was wanting to get are ssr formula mesh's which run around 400 each so this would put me at a little bit less for the price. the 4 lug with such a good width would save me money from having to go to 5 lug as well. how would the offset go? some people seem skeptical on here seem skeptical about it

Eww, SSR formula mesh is $400 a piece? What a rip...they don't look half as good either.

The offset would be what I said...+6 mm...it's a pretty damn low offset for the width of the wheels, but it depends on what size tires you're running...if you're running 225's you shouldn't have a problem making them fit, although I have no clue if the s13 wheel wells are smaller than the s14s. I know for me that these wheels WITH a 20 mm wider tire (245) will only stick out 15 mm more than my old setup, which isn't much at all. If I used a 225 tire, they'd only stick out 5 mm more than my old setup. If worst comes to worst, all you'd need to do is roll your fenders...but I doubt I'd need to roll my s14 fenders, and if I did, it's not that big of a deal (SPL parts rents out fender rollers for $49 a week). I cannot guarantee fitment or anything though...

Let me know if you would be committed to buying a set so I can call John and see whats up...

They're only available in 4 x 114.3....

They're only available in this size...

This color...
etc.

They weigh 16 pounds. All of this information is included within the thread....

w00tw00t, that'd probably work out...I'll give these threads a couple more days and call John friday and see what he says...but if you're committed, which you are, and I am, thats 2 more customers than that guy previously had right there...If I could get like 4 guys plus myself it'd definitely be a go...

I'll keep you guys updated.

CCWs are VERY inexpensive and very light weight.

What sizes are you getting? I might be in on this. I was going to call CCW and see if they had 18x10 and 18x9s in S14+z32 brakes offsets. Highly doubtful, i think i might have to measure mine out first. :(
