I hope to someday be famous for my pic threads.
I hope you enjoy these photos of my 300zx calipers freshly powder coated.
The finish is a metallic silver, with the faces of the letters grinded down, then the entire thing clear coated. This makes for a very subtle detail. A 3 step process on all 4 calipers. Cost was $140.
Well worth the price, in fact I gave the guy a $10 tip and a promise to bring my business there in the future.
On to the pics:

I also FINALLY recieved my B+M short shifter. Here it is with my Nismo GT shift knob.

lookin good!
it looks like the letters could be ground down more, or polished or something. or is that just the lighting?

I've got 30mm aluminum front ZX brakes in my near future and I was debating about powdercoating the calipers. I had read somewhere that you have to be careful when powdercoating aluminum, something about the baking temperatures, I believe. Did you have any issues with this when bringing it to the powdercoater?
I was thinking about getting mine done in black, but now that I've seen this I think I might change my mind ... those look great. Not too flashy or anything, just nicely done.
Is grinding down the letters just to give them a shinier finish so they stand out a little more?

to get brakes powder coated, do you have to take the brake aparts remove pistons/seals?

yes you have to remove the pistons and all of the rubber seals. The caliper should look just like it does in those pics.
As far as troubles with powder coating aluminum, the guy didnt mention anything. He did a pro job and had tons of other stuff there (wheels, frames etc)

You should see these things in the sunlight. The grinded letters reflect a blinding amount of light. These pics were all taken without a flash or bright lighting, and they still stand out.
I wanted a really subtle effect, just like the difference between the spokes and center of my Nismo wheels. Bright silver on extemely bright silver :bigok:

Looks good, nothing special about the coating .. .very simple-standard coat. You had to shave the letters then used paint can clear coat or you powder clear coated? they do make a gloss clear coat in powder FYI
You overpaid, you should have sanded down the imperfections on the calipers (dent marks, scrapes)
oh well :)

Wow yours look great. Only thing thats scaring me is, did they powdercoat inside the piston pot? If so that is not good! I had mine sandblasted smooth, powdercoated as well, but I got fire engine red. And I didnt have to spray any type of clear over them, they shine like nothing. Bling Bling. Heres some pics...

I was very happy with the results, and the attention I get on the road, everywhere I go you can see people lookign at the brakes.

I wasnt aware that I could sand down aluminum to take out those imperfections.
The only thing thats "special" about this coating is that in 10 years its going to look exactly the same as it does now. I'll never have to polish the letters or worry about the finish fading. You can't get that with a DIY high temp paint job.
And its a clear powder coat FYI. that was mentioned in the first post

No the piston area was masked off. The clear coat is actually another layer of powder coating. I wanted this because eventually without it the letters would dull from corrosion and have to be resurfaced. With the clear coat, the bare metal is prtected and will continue to shine for years to come.

i like the wheels more than the calipers. don't get me wrong, the calipers are nice, but those wheels are hott, i've always loved those wheels.

i was thinking about powder coating my calipers glossy black as well. but your powder coated calipers make me wonder if i should reconsider. the powdercoat job looks almost the same as a rattle can job.

I'm not. There are better things to spend money on than something that will get dirty like brake calipers.
