Are they really worth it??? im not planning on making gobbs of power...jus more then stock. 250ish i guess. i dont wanna rely on boost.i want the motor to do some work too. but i was loookin at Super Street today (yea i look at super street from time to time leave me alone) and they did a dyno test of the very cams i was lookin at getting. Tomei 256 11.5mm Poncams. they only netted 15hp from the baseline HP and 5lbs of tq.
Would i be better off just gettin an SS autochrome mani, dump pipe, little bit of porting, Boost controller, and a little AFC tweakin?? ??

i know all that amounts to more then the cams..but not much more.

headers and turbo extension would probably give you 15hp and let you spool quicker, what do you mean by making your engine do some work too? more boost just means your engine will work harder, granted you can get some power out of things like pulleys, exhaust, cams, but you have a turbo charged car, thats the beauty of a turbo, up the boost and get more power =]. With the stock turbo running 15 you should be in the range your looking for.

Rely on the boost and forget the cams. More boost, more tuning and you're there. I was always under the impression that for the most part cams helped the car breathe better in the higher rpms while not really increasing hp. From what I've read also...wilder cams mean wilder idle. I don't think I would.

I'd be careful on choosing cams for a turbo car. Na cams will not make any hp because of the overlap. You would need a turbo spec cam for your car

Where and why did you come up with that?

Hes asking questions about an SR, and listed SR camshafts that StupidStreet had tested.

To answer your question: cams would be about worthless on your car. the car in stupid street has an AEM stand alone and a T28. Your T25, and for the most part a T28 cant really move more air than the stock manifolds/cams are capable of dealing with.

Cams arent only for horsepower. Although they WILL add horsepower it also changes your powerband. I'm gonna run HKS 264 cams on my SR

cams are for horsepower. the moving of the powerband is just a byproduct of the changes you have to make for the additional airflow. the further you go with lift and duration, the further the powerband is shifted. You can only go so aggressive on the opening and closing ramps before you beat the valve train to death

I'm probably going to run HKS 264 step 2's in my own car before long, but with a stock or near stock turbo.........its pointless.

Along with the camshaft upgrade i will be upgrading to a disco potato, major portjob on the head, intake mani, with better valvesprings and RAS. What i meant about the powerband comment was that ppl who get cams say the engine really feels alive, like it found something that was lost. The feel of the engine is greatly improved. I hope it's worth it cause i've made up my mind about buying them

All your basically doing is moving your powerband further up in the revs. The car wont have such a tendancy to take such a dive in tq on the top end. 264's may actually be a lil overkill for a disco potato. Id go with a higher lift 256 and good valve springs. People have a tendancy to want to put too large of a camshaft in for particular application. I want 264's because im hoping to be in the lower 400rwhp range. There have been cars in the 500+rwhp range with 264's.
