Should be fine without one if you're just doing a hone job.

Yeah in that case you're boring up and should use one. I'm sure you don't want to buy a brand new one either.

We include the use of one anytime we machine a block.

your machinist should have one. they should be using one when boring a block. if they don't use one, find another one immediately

Most local home-grown machinist shops probably won't have an sr20 hone/torque plate though. Unless you luck out and live in Florida by Mazworx, or by MA Performance.

I'm in Houston and I had my shop make one for me, and they use it constantly for my blocks. Hit me up if you can drop off your block and they'll take care of it. Might take a week or so though, but top notch machinists that know all about surface finishes.

What was the name of the shop? And are they reasonable on how much a hone/bore and cleaning is? I don't mind paying the money since I wouldn't have to buy a torque plate
