Paul, thank god you got your car back in one piece. You have to tell me the story when I see you. Per the website, you have to be a NASA member in order to participate. Just click on the link that George provided (thanks George). You should see all the info there. Hope to see you all there!

I signed up last month and my membership says it expires Sept 2005. So, you're good for one year.

WTH... $69.00... you know thats marketting psychology rite there...! Plus membership too. Guess they saw the potential for profit... wish it was still $50 like lastime :/
MikeDeuce
10-08-2004, 01:02 PM
Don't forget the $10 at the door (per person)... so it's closer to $114 for first timers. They seem to be holding events more regularly these days at least, so the value is getting better.
Jeff: will do... I think he can make it to this event as well.
How come it wasnt on the Nasa calender when i looked? I just signed up. thanks for posting the link

just friggin sign up for a membership. its only $35 or so for a whole year....
and thats how the organization makes some of its money, thus giving US more events to do

The website says if you create a new account, it will automatically charge you 35 dollars extra. I was ok with that. So i went ahead with the registration process but it only charged me 69 bucks. ? I got the reciept through email so i'm in as far as i'm concerned.
Also on a sidenote last time i went , i just payed 50 bucks. They didnt ask for a Nasa membership. I payed 10 bucks to get through the gates, then 50 bucks to the guy running the event, then they let me run. Maybe it's a default setting of the website to let you know about the 35 dollar fee, but they may not require it for drift practice. Technically i think US drift is running the event. Nasa just sub-leases turn 7 to US Drift, so you dont have to pay Nasa. THis is my understanding of it. ANy more info would be nice
cliffs notes: Nasa rents out track. Sub-rents turn 7 to US drift. Nasa is not running the event, so you dont have to be a Nasa member to run. (I think)

I did the same thing, i just signed up online for hyperfest without getting a membership and they didn't ask for it. Im pretty sure you'll get away without having one.

me third that. I just want to know like how many runs I will get. Last time it was 65 bucks for 6 runs  And the beginner don't get trained for shit, or not even a beginner course to start out with. It's just the course and you go ahead and drive/drift through it, wtf.. how is starter going to improve? I am eager to learn but damn give starter a chance. All i want is an open area with some cones to learn, something basic. Damn I start wanting to move to South Cali now.

never been to us drift before, ridealongs ok?
yeah thery are ok..i heard this event isnt on turn 7, but only the turn 7 paddock. is this true? Also what's the maximum number of drivers?
MikeDeuce
10-09-2004, 06:50 PM
It says turn 7 paddock on the URL posted above... Turn 7 on the track was supposedly just a special event because it was part of hyperfest.
It would be nice if every event at sonoma was sort of like the day after the last hyperfest one (on sunday), with on track drifting. They had the small skidpad area and everything. Would have been a great event for even the first-timers.

I think it's still up in the air... I hope not though. Those competitions are sort of a waste of time during practice days. And yeah, it's $10 a person at the gate :(

Little rain wont be too bad. But it sucks when you have to swap tire. Not looking forward on working on cars under the rain.

Hey Jeff-
Any idea how many people will be attending this? Based on the large response of this thread, it looks like we'll have a good group out there. Anyways, a rough number would be cool. Just want to know if there will be 3 run groups compared to 2 -- I need all the seat time I can get.
I just hope it rains during the day... not before I get up there and not on the way back -- with ample time to change tires w/out getting wet. :x:

Other people experienced the same thing, as long as you signed up for the event I would think you are safe.

Man I was almost kicked out of the drift event before I even got there... The red truck caught me speeding down that muddy rocky road to the docking area and man was he pissed. Later I found out there is a death on the race track so everyone is a little hyped up.

How about... obey the posted speed limit... and don't risk getting kicked out.
Isn't there another event in November? I'mma try to make that one.
