how do you guys drive with these things, i installed one today and it scrapes everywhere, my car is pretty low but nothing extreme, just enough to tuck 195/50/16's. I raised it about a 1/4 inch so there it no longer tucks but still has no gap and its still real bad, i dont think this thing will last long. Heres a pic of the clearancehttp://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid141/pd747b19c679039849a69d9b7399316c9/f6cd6f2c.jpg

yes, i know my intake is ghetto, but it works.

195/50/16's

wtf?
get 205/55 at least. you won't scrape nearly as much.
wanna scrape even less? 205/60.

yeah, it's your short-ass tires.

240SX tires should be 24-25" tall. 205/55-16 is good. Stock S14 size...

Ive had them before,it looks like ass with that much sidewall, I think im gonna go with a 205/50 and raise it a little more and see how it goes. Also my wheels are only 16x7.5, which is why i try to use the smaller tires, maybe if i find some 16x8.5's ill run 205/55's.

huh..?! u can fit 225s on a 7in wheel bro... Im running 205s on my steelies. 205mm on 6.5in rims fits perfect, OEM perfect...

I think that just comes with the territory on a lowered car, especially with a zenki lip.

I put mine on the other day, now I can't get up my driveway; I have to back into the garage now. :Ownedd:

it's pretty sad that my tires are taller and wider AND i have 15x7's... get a BIGGER RIM if you want a lower offset, dude.

KiDyNomiTe
10-02-2004, 01:53 PM
take it off if you can't handle it. Its a cheap piece, it'll pick up a lot of things but most likely wont break. At least this way road kill won't go under the car adn hit your exhaust :(.

huh? who said anything about offset? and i dont follow how offset effects the lip, maybe you meant sidewall? But as for bigger rims i have some 17x8's that i use occasionally.

I think he meant get a bigger wheel if you want lower sidewalls. I run 195/50/15s and 205/50/16s, but the again almost all of my tires were acquired for free. Regardless I'd stick with 50s on 15s and 16s, feels and looks better.

meh i drive with that on a daily basis, its easy. front is easy to clear, its your sway bars/exhuast system/frame thats gonna eat shit.

two things,

low pro tires are seriously ghey... bigger sidewall is WAY better than a bigger wheel gap. i have 225 / 50 / 16's and have run 245 / 45's and 245 / 50's out rear. low pro is for old hondas to make them look lower without dropping the car

also,

you put that lip on wrong, that is why it is so low.

well, i think sidewall flex is seriously ghey, and i have zero wheel gap with these tires. How is the lip on wrong?

mrmephistopheles

I don't see how the lip is on wrong, but having tinyass tires like that is beyond stupid, especially with 7.5" wide wheels. When I had my R32 GTR wheels (16x8) I used 225/50R16, and the sidewall was almost square (with Falken GR-beta). Sidewall flex was VERY low. Alot of the propensity for sidewall flex lies in the type of tires you buy. If you buy shitty Walmart or Pepboys special tires, you're gonna have sidewall flex. ALOT of it. Buy some properly sized, sporty tires from a good manufacturer, and you'll be set.
Quit complaining about how it'll look if you want our advice.
Decide what's more important to you, the life of your lip (and frame) or the look of your tires.

S14DriftR
10-02-2004, 10:14 PM
the problem is i have an almost stock ka, I have used larger tires before, they require much more aggresive initiation techniques, and i have to push the car ALOT harder to keep the rear out. with my tires now there is no understeer, very smooth and predictable breakaway and over steer is very managable, but they are grippy enough that they hook up again fast when I let off. If I did much grip driving i would have much larger tires, but I dont do much grip. Im suprised you guys havent seen this before, many guys i know prefer the feel of smaller tires on a car built mostly for drift, especially if its low powered. I guess its all personal preference.

the lip is on wrong because it is too low, it shouldnt be that low.

raise it up, your lip can and needs to be at least 1 inch higher.

i run a zenki lip on the front of my car, i am on my second and i have spares too...lol i have mounted in in maybe 4-5 different ways, and have knocked it off AT LEAST 17 times in the last year.

and i mean like ripped that bitch off on curbs, ditches, speed bumps, snow, gravel, everything...

you just need to spend some time and make it perfect.

i've got at least an inch of additional clearance on you.

mount it at the sides as high as you can.

try not to copy my supports up front...lol but get some support up there.

zip-tying it through the scrape-guard doesnt give it enough support up front.

there is no drilling involved on your car at all. but u may want to drill new, smaller holes in the urethane bracket inside the lip at the sides.

mount is snuggly at each side up tight and as high as you can against the fender. do this loosely with zipties at first, then whne you have both sides up you tighten the hell out of the zipties.

then figure out a way to get some more support up there..

i had to rethink this a few times, especially after the intercooler went in.

it is important that your front lip sits right..

95% of the people running that lip do it halfassed and it looks ghey...

S14DriftR

I guess so, my exhaust scraped before, but so has every car ive ever owned, from a camaro to 2 240's. Im running all the adjustable arms needed to keep suspension geometry in check, with rucas, and camber plates the alignment shop had no problem setting to my specs with no exesisve bump steer or other negative effects, i didnt have to pre-compress the springs on the coils so I really dont consider it extreme since besides scraping there is no negative effects on how the car drives.

My car was not on coilovers at the time of this pic, lips a lot lower, but straight, not sloppy and low in the middle :D

HyperTek- I love your car. Any chance you have a version of that shot without the writing on it? The one from the parking lot that you posted before (head on shot) is my desktop now. I always see great shots of your car. I like the "style" your car is now. Well, enough of that, more zenki lips on chukis.

Actually, switched it to the poem one, that will be cool for a while, but, the original would be nice to find as well. :aw:
