I've heard of price gouging, but this is fucking absurd. I was looking for a clean Cefiro to buy in the states and they popped up on google because they had one a few months ago and posted a video to youtube of it.

I could literally fly to Japan round trip in business class and stay at a five-star hotel (https://www.expedia.com/Details?action=UnifiedDetailsWidget%40showDetails&originId=6000479&piid=9489334c-2324-4253-9849-9db9b0c7c972-1&c=29a174de-717d-4632-9896-8a407a0f6eab&packageType=fh&referringProduct=package), contract someone to go to the auction for me, pick out a GT-R in Japan, have it shipped home, register it, and still have money left over for mods.

I get that we have a cult following for the GT-R here in the states. I loooove the R32 Skyline. It's my favorite car in the world. I also get the need for turning a profit as a business. What I don't get is how Montu justifies this price with the amount of miles on it for a 25 year old car.

supply and demand. Look at supra prices or FD prices.

That sounds about right to me?

I went to a certain shop in the PNW (lets keep them nameless) that imports cars and parts and they imported a GTR with around the same miles for roughly that much. I saw it and the employee even started it up for me.

They do all the work for you and i am sure that includes inspecting the car to make sure you aren't getting a POS.

freaking ayy right.. i mean we all have the time to fly out to japan and get our own GTRs.. smash a few cuties while we out there. why even bother with importers when we can do it ourselves!!

=\

Time is money, and paying upfront to somewhere that makes it easier for me to get without going thru the headache of sourcing, finding a shipper etc..

I guess he is too young to have seen the prices when Motorex was bringing them in. lol 26k is not bad at all for a R32 GTR.

Eh I see a bubble coming for these.

You already see the guys that bought em trying to sell them and realizing that it's going to be difficult.

If you want a good deal on an imported car, you must know the right people.
You do not know the right people.
Keep playing.
They probably got the car from an auction. So, where's the auction sheet with the grade? That's the first thing you should look at. Never buy below 3.0.

Great advice.

Been seeing a lot of questionable shit up for sale lately.

It doesn't matter anyway. There's always an uneducated buyer, unfortunately if you don't care to do the research first it's only going to hurt yourself!

For what the car is equipped with, it's not totally unreasonable considering that it's coming from a dealer. The price hike on GTR related items both here stateside and on YJA is getting to be a bit ridiculous.

What I don't like about the posted car is how filthy it is, Montu could have spent a bit of money on a detail and it would look like it is worth the asking price. Maybe they are just confident that it will sell in "off the boat" condition.

As long as there's fanboys with money, they'll continue to sell.

I laugh when I see all these people jizzing to purchase all these mid 90's imports at exhoribitant prices. Especially when there are plenty of cars that would outperform them by a huge margin for cheaper.

I've wanted an r33 gtr since I first saw one back in high school, damned near 20 years ago, so it's just not a performance thing for me. I'll freely admit I'm stuck in the 90's. Hell, I have shoes and tee shirts older than some people here.
Just don't know if I can convince myself to blow $20k+ on one though. That's a lot of change for a 25 yr old car. I've already got two 50 yr old cars and I'm getting tired of old things. Getting to where I just want to jump in and drive without having to deal with old car problems.

^^^This. For $26k, Corvette or GTFO, IMO. That's C6 6.2L LS3 kinda money.

Finally made it to Japan. I bought a Type-X with about 95,XXX for around $8000 delivered to me from Osaka. It's Midnight Purple, true Type-X, and still has issues. I chalk it up to being on-par with a shitty CA car for what I paid, but it's what I wanted. The 'de-facto' s-chassis car.

Anyways, my point is that the R32 ruined everything. Seriously. Multiple people I know out here that have been here for a very long time blame the R32 for the price hike on all models. When the GTR started fetching so much it wasn't long before car dealerships did their research and hiked up the prices on everything. I wanted to source a two-tone Silvia K's and everyone told me to wait...but now a decent one will run me $10k and there's even an example on Goo right now going for $19k. Most s-chassis cars are $7000 and up if you want the SR20DET models.

At first I felt shitty about paying what I paid but over time I realized it wasn't that bad in the scheme of things. I've only seen one other MP Type-X and it's going for $14,000 lol.

I think the GT-R is cool.

I think Corvettes are anti-cool.

It's genuinely that simple. I know there's faster, better performing, sexier, more dependable. I don't like Corvettes so I wouldn't buy one.

Now am I running off to spend 26k on one of these? Heck no. But I'm not spending 26k on any car.

Exactly! Some of the higher mileage Z06's are going for about the same price, and there's no question as to which one is better for the moolah.

I just want an F40.

That would be ideal.

To answer the original question. The justification is simple, someone, somewhere will pay that, or close enough to take it home. You only have to justify the price to one person, and I know a lot of people that if they had that in cash right now they would go get one.
