Quick question. What's the peak horsepower a stock Tranny on an s14 (1997 240sx se w/ka24de) can handle? I believe the tranny is the 71c . I plan on heavily moding my 240, but not doing the engine swap with the sr20det. Just want to know if I can keep the same tranny or will I have to upgrade it (if so, what's a good swap). Thanks in advance for the help fellas.

Well, I don't know for sure. But, I have heard that the KA is pretty beefy and has proven to hold ~430RWHP or even more I think. I also heard that the Z32 tranny is stronger that the KA, and it will fit if you use the KA bell housing, and maybe custom mounts, I dunno about that for sure though. Anyone else have any info on this?

ya the tranny is almost bullet proof, but if u give it alot of abuse it will go. i believe my friend got up to 450rwhp and blew the tranny right on the dyno, will my other friend had only 300rwhp and blew it from power shifting.
it rrreally depends on the driver
Can you (or your friends) find out what, specifically, broke in the trannies? This would be useful information for those of us that would like to continue using the KA tranny at higher HP levels. Thanks.

assuming Duy's car was at around 600hp... (i don't think it was ever dynoed??)... 600hp eats the KA tranny. It might be worth it to swap to an SR bellhousing and use the SR tranny.... I wonder if that's been done yet...
