im scared...T28 makin loud noise while runing...

hey guys im back again...my t25 went so i picked up a T28 the next day and slaped it on...was happy finally felt boost and all that...but then one night i got home from driving i was kinda of sleepy so i wasnt realy aware of anything but i got home parked my forty in the garage i heard loud noises from the turbo.....it was like spinning clinking noises....sounds like there is something wrong with the turbo but i was wondering if it is a big problem or a minor problem.....

then the next day im off to work driving slow like i usualy do untill a sucker wants to play....i was like let me feel boost...so i floor it in second and didnt really go any where and didint feel no boost...i was like fucked not this again...so i tried it again but this time in first gear.....floored it and all i heard was loud exhaust...no turbo spooling...to bov going off. no boost.....is my turbo blown again..

i dont see any smoke....no oil leaks yet....(havent checked yet but there is none on the floor)...i see my coolant level keeps going down after i keep filling the resevoir...ummm and all i got is that loud clinking and clanking that sounds like my fins arent spinning rite.......so please...let me know whats going on???????

Does your boost gauge show that it's spooling? If so, then you probably have a boost leak somewhere. Check intercooler gaskets

You keep having bad luck with that car. If your coolant keeps disappearing you probably are leaking it somewhere or have a blown headgasket. Are you sure the clanking is not detonation?

its not spooling cause i dont even hear the turbo...i dont feel the boost....and when i drive fast..i dont hear a pshhhhh when i shift...the turbo is like not on at all...when i turn the car off the BB doesnt even spin slowly to a stop....and yea i do keep havin bad luck with this dam motor...but one day ill get it rite..the coolant dissapears but i dont see it leaking anywhere..like when i park it i dont see a big puddle on the floor when i leave....??? wierd and the thing is that i hope its just a blown gasket.....but which gasket would that be..the one from the manifold to the turbo???

and the clanking sounds like objects in the turbo are clinking and clanking spining and fumbling around in there.....just picture listening to metal pieces rotating in a dryer!!

Thats sounds like detonation to me. If that's true your motor is almost gone sorry to say. Have a compression test done before you do anything more. The headgasket goes between the head and block.

had the same problem with mine. got on it a couple of times and it seemed fine. went through a drive thru and when i pulled out no boost. got the turbo off and a piece of the gasket had broken off and jamed itself between the blade and the housing and wouldn't let the shaft turn. simple fix.

Hey you might want to check your actuator. Make sure that the lever that goes to the turbo actuator didnt pop off the hanger. hope this helps.

ok here we go..the actuator is still in tack..the level is still on and everthing so may be not that......the T28 i bought was for 300 bucks used...it had 30k on it.....a piece of gasket breaking off in the blade may not also...i took the intake pipe off and spun the blade and it spins....but everytime i spin it..it makes this ding noise....like a mini door bell..may be the ball bearing is fucked....another thing i found out was that the shaft doesnt move in and out...but it does move up and down and side to side...which i think it bad!!! i dont think its detonation either cause my car runs fine with out the turbo..feels just like an sr20de....no noise or anything the only noise i hear is from the turbo which sounds like when it spins it had the ding noise..or rattling change....

from my view with these symtoms i dont think i have a bad motor....or detonation...may be i just been dealing with bad turbo's....so i think i need to replace a turbo or just get my T28 rebuilt....

another thing is that may be my motor is not given off something that the turbo needs to survive...how may lines are to a turbo ...3?? i know there is coolant..and oil....but the other i dont know...may be im not getting enough coolant or oil how can you check for those things..???

you may be burning coolant from the turbo, is there white smoke coming from the exhaust... that would explain the loss of coolant

if you feel play when you grab the impellor shaft and try and move it, the turbo is done, get a new turbo or a rebuild kit

Your turbo is bad had the same problem with my old 180 (it had a T28) well I heard a loud whirr sound then started to hear a dragging sound from the turbo then blam one day hear a sshitty sound and the car would not boost at all. Well go to the house drained the fluids ripped the turbo off and the intake compressor wheel was dented and chipped and well it had no in and out shaft play but it had up down and side to side. Turns out it was hitting the damn housing. Not sure the cause I got the turbo used and well that is what happens when you buy used stuff sometimes you win and sometimes you lose but at least it was only $300 instead of $1800 My TD-06 25G met with the reaper about 6months ago (easy rebuild) but hey shit happens when you want to get pedal happy

ok so that means my baby ball bearing i was all excited with is done....damm...umm is it worth to rebuild it or pick up a new turbo??? how much is a rebuild kit...or to take it to someone to rebuild???

and if it is burning coolant...how am i suppose to deal with that...i dont think it is cause i dont get white smoke or anythng....all i get is that clankin noise...but no smoke or nutting so iono if im burning coolant it seems to go down though everytime i fill it....

but yea now if anybody has a t25 or t28 for me hit me up aite thanks...and thanks for helping me out..if you guys got any other imput or anything to tell me please do thanks!!!!!!

Well if your not leaking coolant it has to be going somewhere. If you plan on a rebuild bring it to a shop to do it, from my understanding turbos need special machinary and precise measuremnet and balance to work.

well the cartridges for this turbo are really expensive (I think) they can be rebuilt. Talk to someone a www.cheapturbos.com they might have a solution for you.

well i talk to one of my guys over here and i think it mite of been my actuator that has cause the 28 to blow....cause i made a custom bracket on there that wasnt rock solid,,it was aite.....and he said that coulda cause boost spikes from time to time....iono sounds like it could be true???? but i dint drive it that hard......
