So i got my car tuned and made 314hp at 14 psi. But the car won't hold boost for anything over 14psi, it hit 18psi but it dropped down to 14 psi. Is this an eletronic boost controller or actuator problem? It is internally gated.
Mods are:
Power FC L-Jetro
- S13 Blacktop SR20
- Greddy intake manifold
- S15 multi-layer exhaust manifold gasket
- Denso 660cc injectors
- Nismo FPR
- ACT stage II clutch
- Garrett GT2871rs .64 AR housing
- Taka lines
- Greddy oil catch can
- Greddy oil filter sandwich plate
- Greddy LS intercooler core with bings piping kit
- HKS SSQV IV BOV
- Greddy hot pipe
- Walbro fuel pump 255
- Z32 fuel filter
- Apexi N1 full 3” turbo back
- Trust downpipe + cat delete
- Custom 3” intake
- Koyo rad
- CS coolant tank
- UP short shifter
- Z32 MAF
- Bings torque damper
It is also running an AEM TRU BOOST controller/gauge with a single port boost solenoid if that helps.
If it is an EBC problem, i was thinking of getting a greddy profec and if it was an actuator problem, i was thinking of getting an hks adjustable wastegate actuator.
Thoughts?
Thanks

What psi did you have the boost set on the controller?

Sorry im new to the tru boost, i know you click on the two buttons to check and switch your settings, but which category is it located in?

I don't think that was a trick question.
I want to see your dyno graph.
So, You tuned your own engine, but...you don't know how to set your boost or know what boost was set when you dyno'd it?
Am I close or nah.
You could have downloaded the manual for the truboost and figured your own question out.
Don't forget to post that graph![emoji12]

Did not say i tuned it myself. Was tuned by someone else. Anyways, here's the dynograph

You just gotta learn the boost controller and the settings. Looks like some wastegate flutter from the boost controller. It's a game of trial and error you have to keep adjusting the settings until you can get a smooth boost curve without surging up and down.

So i tuned my car and made 314hp at 14 psi.
I admit the quote isn't true, because you made 314hp on 18psi not 14psi like you claim. Which sucks, should be 350hp give or take 10hp.
Anyway boost leak test and hks adjustable waste gate, plus boost controller tuning.

Yeah I was thinking about getting the hks adjustable waste gate, I checked for boost leak prior and there was none. Thanks man!

this was tuned by toma. he uses a real dyno. not some machine that spits out whatever number the 'tuner' thinks they should get. 320 at 18 psi is very close to what a gt 2871 puts out at on a sr20 everywhere else on earth but the ole' USA

K, but i do live in the usa!
So why didn't toma address the drop off to his costumer, like I would do being from the USA!
BTW the 52trim makes 238kw at 16psi
An ausie friend of mine just texted me, whatever that's good for, xd!

It sounds like you controller isn't doing much, if anything. 2871r's come preset for 1bar(14.7) psi from the factory. I'd say you spiked and settled at what the actuator was intended to run at.
Check your settings and get familiar with the controller. Why didn't your tuner set it up? Did he even look at it? You need a manual for your truboost, don't start pressing buttons aimlessly.

320 is correct for a stock camshaft engine.
for 350~ you need a slightly larger than OEM camshaft. If you already have that, then I would check for boost leaks first, then crank up the gain on the boost controller. If it keeps falling, the turbo is maxed. You can unlock a little bit from that point by improving the air path with less resistance (better exhaust, cam, smaller intercooler, shorter plumbing) in other words if you have an ebay intercooler it is locking up a tiny bit of power. the long plumbing typical is locking up a tiny also. Any restriction in the exhaust is locking up a tiny bit. and so forth.
