Has anyone driven for a long time without a breather tube in their M/T?

Anyone have a hack for replacing a missing one?

Had my hose open vent zip tied up high to my battery cable lead i ran down the trans tunnel. I wouldn't run without it or with it blocked off. However the shifter isn't air tight i dont think so maybe blocking it off completely wont hurt anything. I've taken the 71c apart before for inspections and i dont see why it would't just simply vent excess pressure/heat through the shifter. Just my 2 cents.

I can see a hot day and steep incline causing a leak along with dust and bugs getting in there. I was thinking of cutting some brake hardline that could fit in the port. Anybody able to measure the I.D. of the hole on a manual KA24de trans they have?

Hey sorry to revive a dead thread, but since we're on the subject of transmission vents, is there a way to test whether it's clogged? My M/T frequently lets out a loud hiss when I let off of the gas under load. I'm worried that it's clogged up.

Just wrapped this up. A new breather tube can be fashioned with 5/16 OD hardline. Welded a washer to it to bolt it to the engine at the top with the turndown. Made a slight fillet with hardline cutting tool. Hand press fit into the trans.
