I found a black fastback 240sx for sale that isn't running. The interior is in decent shape just a little dirty, a little cleaning should fix it right up though. The exterior is great shape with no dents, however for being left outside for a while the paint has faded. I am buying this car from a local car shop that does engine swaps and they told me they would swap in a SR20DET along with the S13 front end conversion for $6500. I am hoping he will lower the price down to at least $6000, if I can get him that low I will buy it. I was just wondering if that price is resonable. Also I am also wondering how much a SR20DET swap would cost if I did it myself. By the way the car has 200,000 miles on the chasis.

Are you talking about just the car without the engine and front end?

I don't think they are trying to rip me off i have been going to that same shop for the past year just to hang out and learn more about cars. The owner is really cool and I think I can trust him to fix whatever goes wrong after i buy it. So do you guys think $6000 is a good price?

i personally dont think it's a good price... i mean 1000 for the car, then 3000 for the SR and you could do it yourself...i wouldnt do it...

Clean chasise= <1000
Sr20det = 2000
Silvia front = 700
=3700
I if you cant do the swap your self
=4700
Fluids, intake, radiator hoses,ex.. and maybe a fuel pump, then maybe
=5g's
So they get 1000$ for labor, then get $1000 for free. It takes at me around 8-12hrs to swap an sr, and then save the 2g's+. It may take you a weekend, but I would love to have a job that payed me 1g a day. I just sold a 240 with a rb20 for $6700. It cost me 2450 to build, and 4 days from start to finish. Building and selling 240's is my buisness. Think about it. Its time to learn. If not, more money for me...

are they gonna paint the car after the conversion? and are they gonna just throw in a stock sr? dont do it. just get some guy on here to do the swap for you for cheaper.

in cali, its hard to find a clean shell for less than 1000. well, in nor cal at least. i know on the east coast 240s go cheaper. and you can probalby find an sr for 2000 if you got a hookup or something, but from a reputable dealer it cost at least 2500 + shipping. and you can probably get a s13 silvia front for 700 but if you wait for the right deal to come along, otherwise they go for about 800+ - 1000. also, it doesn't seem like the original poster can do the swap himself until he researched a little more.

We'll I have decided not to get the car. I figure i could do it myself for a lot cheaper and i would respect the car a lot more that way. So thanks guys for the input. Well now back to looking....
