my friend has access to a machine shop he works at on the weekends. he is allowed to do any project he wants and one of the other machinists is an old teacher of mine as well. so we have access to a good range of cnc's and such. the plan is to find someone who can donate some old hubs (one front one rear), take the dimensions, write the program, and sell them for hopefully way less than the 900 dollars you will pay for the attain set up. just was wondering if anyone would honestly be interested. materials and work will both be of quality

I'm curious, how exactly do you make a hub? I'm a newbie when it comes to machining work.

well junkyard used ones are like 50 bucks, so for nice machined new ones id pay like 150-200. materials are kinda cheap and the man hours would be low once you get the process down, thats if you plan on makin lots of em. i think enough of them at that price would be profitable too.

is nobody honestly interested in this?? if not then i have no point in writing up the cnc program and can save myself a long ass time by just doing it manual

You're dealing with 240 owners here, the cheapest, laziest car enthusiasts out there. Unless you can gaurantee them to cost no more than $50, hand deliver them, and maybe even install them, you're not going to get any interest. Shame to say, but true. When someone emails me requesting a shipping quote on a door handle I have on Ebay for $4 because the added cost might break their bank, I just sit back and realize that a lot of high quality stuff will never materialize as long as these kids keep buying up all the cars and skimping on everything.

i'd pay 200 for rear hubs, and $150 for front hubs (no studs pressed in)

the reason i'd like peoples oppinons now is because if i did it manual, i could save many many hours compared to writing an ass load of code. ever look at a cnc program? shits wild as hell. maybe if i have to get knee surgery i'll write the code anyway just for fun, i wont have anything else to do for a while. i also think i could definitely get the price as low as 400-500 per full set(front and rears). there will be no distributers or anything of that matter and im not looking to make to much money at all. maybe if it started to pick up i could take the program to a machine shop and pay to have it made. just thinking aloud

the only problem i see with this is that you can get them new for all 4 hubs from nissan for about $460+ tax. but that only works for s14. not sure about knucles for s13's
if you can get them lower than i'm sure you would get alot of interest in them.

I paid $550 for my 5-lug conversion. $450 for attain front hubs, and $100 for z32 rear hubs.
You need not forget to factor in the cost of new bearings.

all that shit is ancient history for me.
russ is right. most 240sx owners are still 4-lug? why? because swapping to 5 lug requires either:
a) too much time
b) too much knowledge
c) too much money
its all past their limit as to what they're capable of. you can always try to develop something nice but, you'll have plenty of idiots who just wont appreciate the product or time that went into making it. stock is already too much for them, unless its going to be dirt cheap.. people wont buy it.

you think 240 people are cheap! you have never net VW people!
As Sykik stated, wheel bearings come into play. GTO hubs were like 350 from Touge Factory including bearings which cost about 70-90 bucks EACH from Nissan depending on wholesale or retail. SO let's say you can't get your hands on quality bearings like OEM so you'd have to buy them and press them in or sell them without bearing for 150-200 bucks per pair.
Let's assume you sold the hubs without bearings for 150 per pair. I bought your hubs then i went and bought 4 wheel bearing for 280 bucks. So far i'm at 580 for a 5-lug conversion. You think it's worth it? I'd definitely do it if it cost me 580 for new hubs and bearing vs 900 for attain stuff. If you go 200 per pair of hubs the price jumps to 780...too close for a no-name to compete with a name.
