View Full Version : Can you crank a motor on a stand?
This might be a stupid question and I've looked it up but found nothing answering my question,
Can you hand crank, like put a socket on the crank bolt and spin the motor by hand when the motor is on a engine stand?
Clutch is off but flywheel is still on if that matters

Just be sure to turn the motor in its normal direction so that the timing chain stays under tension. SR is clockwise looking at the crank pulley, not sure about KA.

If you have the right equipment you can even start an engine on an appropriate fixture/stand.
Now I can't get my flywheel bolts off any ideas? Tried a harbor freight torque driver rated at 230 ft pounds no luck?? Tried holding the crank with a breaker bar while doing the same on the other side and my crank bolt just lossens?? Any other ideas?

you need to bind the flywheel in place. lisle makes a pretty rad tool for doing this, or there are some other more "creative" methods

An impact should work if you have one.
