It will be here monday. Japanese unit without the ABS stuff. Can't wait to install it. $450 delivered, which seems a decent price lately esp if you can even find a non-abs one.

Now just need to decide on struts/springs.

if you're going to go to tracks, you're going to reach a stage like where i'm at and wished you saved up money and get a real lsd...

doesnt matter if ABS or not, i had ABS axles on my diff on my non-abs s13 and now i have my abs axles on my s13 diff in my non (converted to non abs) s14 zenki

abs axles or not, doesnt matter

450
hello ripoff
i thought new nismo 2 way or 1.5 way units were int he 700 ish range. even a kaaz is a bit more then a USED vlsd (which is junk)

but ok..whatever

Man no one here can ever not flame it seems.

well the driveshaft is what I was referring to. Yes the longer non-abs driveshaft has been know to work with 'abs snouts'...but it's a tight fit and I can guarantee it will add to wear on the front bearings and possible the rear of the transmission seals and bearings. The factory would not have gone through the tremendous cost of two driveshafts is not needed.

$450 is hardly a lot of money shipped for a complete ready to bolt to the car unit. On the other hand, $700 may buy you the clutch diff, but just like the $1200 quaife you are now talking added installation expenses. It has to have the ring gear moved over, be shimmed and the whole 9 yards. There are alot of quick cars that do well at the track on stock and J30 VLSD's. They are hardly 'junk'.

Fact is eventually I will buy the Torsen/Quaife for my car, but that will be once the rest is complete. I am doing the suspension all now, I have about $300-400 in interior tidbits to install (missing clips, scratched trim pieces, etc), then something to listen too, some new wheels and tires, Z brakes, then turbo.

After that then I will start going over the weakest links. Dropping $1000 to $1500 for a HLSD installed in my car would be a total waste over just doing a $450 R&R.

its about 80 bucks for install dod.

if your going torsen/quaife then vlsd is good buy, one step closer to it.

should have tried to source a s15 lsd
then your done!

I don't know about $80 here, best price was about $200 I could find. Many would not work on Nissan rear wheel drive (many insisted I was mistaken).

I tried to source a S15 for a while...most do not have the output shafts. One just ended on eBay at $305 + $196 shipping EMS or $85 surface (about a month usually and I have found for big items it can take two months). This is just for the center piece and output shafts. Plus risking customs and all that.

I'd rather buy a quaife though for it's lifetime guarantee at that cost.

I will more than likely be able to recover 100% of what I paid when I do sell though.

So wait, is it an S13 or S14 vlsd?

S14 non-USDM though...in america all VLSD from the S14 had abs I believe.

Aaron, don't kill the kid too bad. Some people don't have the channels that you or maybe I might have to buy parts.

$450 for a drop in diff, shipped, with no driveshaft issues isn't terrible. Remember the East Coast has a lot less cars/parts offerings to start with, so not everyone is going to get the deal of a century. I'm still looking for a reasonable replacement chassis and can't break less than $6000, and that's an abused, high mileage car.

I don't know where you're getting those prices. I paid $380 shipped for an HLSD and I installation was free because I did it myself.

WOW that sucks. My VLSD came off a 97 silvia K w/11,XXX and i paid only 150 with me and my buddy installing it ourselves. Shit 450 bucks???? holyfuck you should have saved some dough for a kaaz you were about 300 away. But hey got roll with what you got. :naughtyd:

You all got riped because I got a 96 J30 complete rear end for $200 with axles/driveshaft/hub/spindles/brakes/5lug hubs.....:).

This J30 has ABS though but I also got the shortend drive shaft.

Hey man,

I know it's tough sometimes to find prices that are as low as what members on Zilvia get, I know what you're goin through, especally if you don't have connections or even decent parts ppl and mechanics.

I think you did overpay a bit, I'm not sure if you have an idea of the market value for VLSD's. Anyway, maybe next time, a bit more patience and looking around will pay off. good luck man.

Yeah, 450 is not the deal of the century. But you have to admit, that is kind of high. I guess everyone is right about everything else, living in so cal does have its benefits. Like myself, I would never pay more than 250-300 for an vlsd, because there are many places that sell front clips here that also have lsds that they sell on the side. These are usually the same lsds taht get sourced with the front clips. But either way, better than nothing.

Just to let you know, I got my nismo lsd for 750 installed. But thats just to give u an idea. It probably would've cost me 675-700 if i did it myself but might as well let them install it for a few more bucks. Nonetheless, good choice on getting an lsd over coils, best mod yet for me to date.

ouch, you might consider contacting one of us cali boys and getting a cali chassis through us and shipping it back east. I can tell you you would definitely beat that 6k price by at least $2k if not more.

I get an 300zx vlsd, 26mm calipers, and master cylinder for 100. From what i understand, all i gotta do is get J30 axels right?

You'll need axles from an early 92-94 J30, these have the 5 star bolt pattern found on the 300ZX VLSD.

I paid $200 for a whole abs S14 rear end with drive shaft and axles minus the hubs from Venus 6 months ago. Then after installing it, it turns out its not even a viscous but some clutch type lsd. :bigok:
