View Full Version : What springs to use???

Yes I searched... but didn't find the kind of answers I was looking for.
In the next couple days I will be ordering KYB AGX's, new springs, SE 7 spoke alloys, and new tires.
I have a pretty limited budget, which is why I'm going with AGX/springs.
I was originally planning on Tein S-Techs.
I know the AGX's don't recommend anything over 1.5" drop, which is why I'm interested in the S-Techs.
My question is, are these the best springs for what I'm looking for. I don't mind something stiff, but I don't want my shocks/struts to blow early.
What's the best compromise here?
Eibach/S-Tech/H-Tech/Whiteline/RSR/etc...

i have agx's and s.tech. it's good for street, but too soft for track. rsr's are a bit stiffer. if i had to do it again i'd prolly get rsr's.
well actually i'd prolly save up for coilovers but you know what i mean

Aren't RSR's a little too stiff for AGX's or something???
More opinions... I just got my money and it's burning a whole in my pocket! I'm ready to order!

I went with leaf springs. jk. Tein S-tech's are too soft, I bought a set right when they arrived on us shores for $220. I was disappointed. Now the are $130 or so, I wonder why??? About a year-ago, I switched to sport-lines. Much better, but still a bit soft.

imo they're all too soft. since you're mating them with kyb agx, you can't get anything with a decent spring rate. i would save that money for some entry level coilovers instead.
if you are dead set on kyb agx's, alot of people use them in conjunction with eibach prokits.

Tanabe would be TITS!!!...but i really think you should save for some nice entry coilovers like Tein Driving masters or BASICS ...but its your money mang.

Hmmm, I thought that lowering the car too much destroyed shocks, NOT high spring rates?
There are people out there who have been running RS-R Race springs + AGX.

I don't really need coilovers... plus I like the adjustability of the AGXs for the price.
Tanabe springs are pretty cheap... they any good? Anyone know firsthand?
Looks like Eibach might get my money...

EDIT:
Ok... after some research I've decided to go with AGX's... I don't need coilovers... and I can always upgrade later when I make my s13 my track car.
It is primarily a daily driver with sporadic autox's.
So AGX's it is.
Now for springs. I don't want anything too soft, that can hold their own at autox.
I'm pretty sure I've read every post about the topic, and I still can't decide. Everyone says something different.
Tein S-Tech: lots of people have them but most others say they are too soft
Whiteline: couple of people who have them like them, but expensive.
HKS Super Sport: Same as above.
Eibach Pro-Kit: some say Eibach is crap, others who have prokit love them
RSR Race: Good for track but might be a bit too stiff for AGX
So I'm leaning towards Pro-Kit due to the fact that I can get them for $200 on ebay...
Opinions? Something not too soft that is decent for daily and ok at autox?

Dude, go with the Espelir ASD springs. They give a great drop and good performance. You can get them from driftspeed.com. Check out my sig or cardomain site. They're great.

im running s techs... im happy with them, they take the back road corners great... not race car though. w/ some sticky tread you will be happy. if you want race car, go coilover.... if you want cheap thrills, but not cheaply made, go s techs w/ agx's.

if you can shell out the money, I'd recommend KG/MM springs over any of the listed above.. prokits really soft compared to the rest of the springs listed, so it depends how much you want to compromise. The GF210's are a decent springs for the money, but lower the car even less than prokits.
I've had prokits, sprints, sportlines, H&R, Tanabe SuperH, and KG/MM DR21 supersport on my s14's..
The best two i liked so far are the KG/MM and the sprints (no bs, a lil better than the others due to linear spring rate)...
as far as kg/mm you might want to go with the s21 sports if you dont want too much of a drop..
Espelir I have heard mixed reviews about, but they seem to be pretty well made stuff.

I ordered Prokits and AGX's from Tirerack this morning...
I've heard decent things from people and a friend of mine has them and loves them...
So I can run these for a while at least and see how I like them.
I can always sell them and upgrade to better springs. I guess I'll really decide after I go to a couple of autox's...
Thanks for the advice.

LOOK at the spring rate archive in the FAQ/archive section.
S-techs are stiffer than Whiteline. They're in fact some of the stiffest on the market except for the RS*R Race, a few brands you never see, and the Eibach Sportlines which are WAY TOO LOW for the AGX.
S-tech too soft for track? What track? They're almost double the stock rates, and I've driven S13s with STOCK suspension on the track often. Stock works, nearly twice as stiff as stock works too!
