So for the past few months I am working my ass off, 7 days a week, to get the SR and get the car running *bought it with blown motor* and so far I have most of the parts needed.
I did pull the motor and trans out and the hood was off, as I am playing around and unhooking all the little zipties and crap to get the harness out.
Than today I get home after working on 2 side jobs in adddition to my regular full time job, and what I find on the windshield??? A warning to get the car fixed in next 7 days or its getting towed!!!!! WTF?????
Its standing in my own driveway, as close to the garage door as possible. so its not getting in anybodys way. and they mess with me!!! BASTARDS!!!!!!!! :madfawk: :madfawk: :madfawk:
I hate them sooo much right now.
BTW can they even tow a vehicle thats on my own driveway???? isn't that stealing????? I mean WTF????

Well, from what I know...working on vehicles in your driveway is illegal in some states/counties/cities...not sure which...And sometimes there are ordinances that state you cannot have a POS in your driveway because it "makes the neighborhood look dirty"...or some shit like that. ANyhow...just put it in back, or in the garage.

I can see unregistered cars parked on teh street as one thing.. but its in your driveway!?! thats crazy.. wonder how they found out.. i mean would a cop just drive down your street and say "oh look at that car, think im gonna write em up".... It could be some city officials that write stuff like this too.. just recently they started goin down my street, got a ticket for our old ranger that was parked on the street in front of the house and a few others on teh street... its really stupid.
Edit- maybe they go by the tags...

Chances are good that one of your neighbors called you in. There is probably a city ordinance in your area that says you can't have a car torn apart in your front driveway for everyone to look at. Being a home owner though I agree with it. That crap makes the neighborhood look bad and hurts property values. Just move it into the garage or in back like SoCal said.
Tricky1980
09-13-2004, 10:15 PM
well i was gonna ask how long it was in the driveway, but its been a few months. that still isnt THAT long, how bad does the car look, just no hood on it? how can they tell that its torn apart? just lay the hood back on it with no engine .. no big deal then. its just a parked car. i had my front end OFF teh car at my house for about 3 months, when i was in an accident and they tried to report me.. i asked them where they wanted me to put it in the garage with the 38 chevy and 41 ford or in the front of the driveway where it was.. they were like uh well umm.. fine! ha
just make it look decent or cover it with a car cover and make it look "classic" haha.. then they have no argument.

Yeah, you likely had a complaint from the neighbors. Police have enough to deal with, won't bother ticking off how many days the car has been there. If it will be a while, put the hood on it and make sure it's clean around it (IE: looks like a useable car). Is there any fluids flowing down the driveway? That will piss people off to and as the other guys said-- can hurt property values.
Before saying how much you hate the police, remember that (in most cases) they enforce the law-- it's the citizens (or politicians) who make it. If you have questions, go to the courthouse and find out what can be done. Make certain you have the right attitude. If you go in there demanding it be changed you won't get anything. See if you can work with the ordinances.

or if you own the property, put up a fence around it. THEN see how they get in there.

09-13-2004, 11:07 PM
This isn't an issue with the cops probably. It is an issue with the Neighborhood Association. Some neighborhoods have rules about working on your car (major jobs) in the driveway. Some prohibit fences and such as well. It doesn't matter if you own the property if the association has specific rules.

I put it in the garage right before I wrote this, but it still pisses me off.
I wonder if I can charge the cop with tresspassing.
Or shoot him when he shows up again ...................... :fawk2:
Today was the possibly the worst for that to happen as I was pissed at boss and the job already!!!!
Just got to wait few more weeks to get the sucka running and I be OK

i would be pissed at the neighborhood association. find out who's in charge and ask 'nicely' for them to talk to you first before going to the cops next time. i'm sure if they had asked you to cover it or move it into the garage you would; and it could have saved you alot of trouble.

now wondering.. does your house look sorta scrubish? theres like maybe 1 house on my street that has an unkept lawn (grass, weeds, dirt etc) that looks bad, I would think maybe you would get picked on for something like that. About that association thing, the house next to me, person passed away like a year ago so its just sitting there, but my neighbors have been keeping up the lawn and watering it on thier own.

My house looks OK. We cut the lawn when needed, pick up the leaves etc. the one next to us is a pile o shit that never racked his leaves in 3yrs but they can;t do anything about that because thats "natural waste" or some shit like that, so they cant even make him clean it up !!!! Grrrrrr.

mrmephistopheles
09-15-2004, 05:33 AM
(this is silviagirl)
You need to talk with your neigborhood organization. Do you pay association fees? Read the rules for the community that you live in. There are some communities that say you can't have a car parked in a driveway overnight because it is an eyesore....some flat out will not allow you to work on your car in your driveway because it causes the driveway to look like ass.....
Check with your community manager and find out, If a cop left you a ticket, chances are there is a good reason for it....MOST typically won't go onto someones driveway to write a ticket.
Best bet, make the car look driveable, move it often to different sides of the driveway and wash it.
*as for the hotrods, if it looks like a pile of ass and an eyesore YES they will harass them too. MOst nice looking hotrods are well kept and are babied in a garage, so, I find that argument total crap and call BS on it.

I am not against cops, it is there job to enforce the laws, however...HOW they do it cann be questionable at times...but thats another thread...
Neighbor hood associations are something you agree too when you move in, right? You should be aware of their policies, if you don't like them, don't move there...
However, sometimes there are just city ordinances that are reportable by your neighbors...enoforced by Joe-bag'o-donuts-cop.

There is no house association of any kind here.
The cops did come by the house 2 days before because my bro did some "spirited shifting" at 5am and somebody called the cops on him. When they stopped by they ran all the vins of the cars in the driveway. Which I found out the next morning.
The hood was off, so thats how they knew there is no motor inside. :(

Right on, I do think it is a honorable position, a civil service...All I advocate is that we step outside of our biases and try and be objective towards a police officers job and how he does it. Acknowledging one's one biases is a daunting task for some...even police officers...Afterall, if I had to deal with the people they deal with on a daily basis I would want to validate my own perceptions/actions as much as possible...ITS A NATURAL HUMAN TENDANCY...It has proven a diffficult task for all of us. This thread is ample evidence of such difficulties...Peace.

This is just another example that they do. There are people speeding around, not stopping on any of the stops in my neighborhood with kids around. NO COPS, I haven't seen one around for years. I called and aks them to come out and make sure that the people arent blowing through stops and they didnt but GOD FORBID I have a car in MY driveway w.o hood on it or motor installed. How old are you SirWarrior? 14?
Stop being so immature. To be angry at someone for doing his job is a masterful show of ignorance. I'll grant you that poor treatment by a cop, or unneccessary harassment is cause for complaint, but don't blame all cops for the actions of one. If you have a problem with a cop, get his name & badge number (or Arjis number) and report him to his supervisor. That's the way to make shit get better, not by complaining on a webforum like a petulant child.
For my $.02 on the matter, I worked for 4 years in a law enforcement capacity. I worked hard, and tended to be more than fair with the people I encountered. Many of my colleagues let the authority they were given go to their heads, and because of their behavior, the image of Police was more tarnished in the public's eye. Not to say that these guys were harassing people, or treating people improperly. I'm a firm believer in a 'warning' system. Most of the guys I worked with were not. I called them Road Nazis and what they tended to do for the 12 hours a day we worked was write as many tickets for as many violations as they possibly could.
I tended to let more people go than I wrote up. Now, we were all doing our jobs, and all well within the parameters of the job, but many more people would have a negative reaction to me based on prior experiences with other Police.
Even so, I still did my job as well as I could, and so did my partners.
Go ahead and think all you want that most cops are out for you. It's not the case. They have much better things to do.

All I push is that we be objective...You said it yourself Mr. Meph...SOME COPS LET IT GO TO THEIR HEAD...Thus, ALL cops get a bad rap...That does not surprise me, becuase in my eyes, the same thing has happened to the import scene...few bad seeds, a couple of idiotic movies...and import guys are "devious"...funny really...I crack up at the morons with bold print "FUCK COPS"...Hell without cops I probably would not be able to own the car I do...It would get stolen without some sort of enforcement.
