View Full Version : In-line fuse blows every time trying to start

I'm attempting to finish up a LS1 swap on my '92 vert; problem is, I have a 200A fuse in-line between the battery and everything else. This fuse setup worked with zero issues when the KA-DE was still in the car. However, whenever I attempt to start (turn-over) the car, the fuse pops 100% of the time.
I've only been able to start the car once, and that time, the fuse blew either once the car was already running or when I turned it off.

For those interested in the first start of the car (embed didn't work for me):

Add more/better Grounds to the chassis and battery

I'll give this a try tomorrow.
Thanks for the response.

Grounds and I suggest isolating the starter from everything else. The starter draws lots of current so it's best to have a direct line to it. Then add more grounds just to play it safe. Worked like a charm on my setup.

Don't use a fuse between the battery and the starter. That's pointless. There's a reason factory cars don't use a fused starter.

If you feel the need to add protection, use a fusible link instead of a fuse.

Run a 4 gauge or larger wire direct from battery to transmission for ground.

Run 1/0 gauge wire direct from battery to starter with circuit breaker inbetween. Run 4 gauge or larger wire from starter to the rest of the system for power.
