Hi, I got a 1992 nissan 240sx with a stock ka24de with 108k miles. Trying to use it as a reliable daily for now. However, it's been sort of unreliable lately...

Issue is that the Oil Light comes on randomly then fades away. The engine doesn't make any irregular noises or movements, but I have concerns. Usually when I turn the vehicle on, the oil light fades away after some time, it doesn't just turn off...but recently I noticed that the Oil Light would sometimes come on when driving now. The light won't come on bright, just fading in and out, sometimes looks like it's pulsating. Then either fades away or says fading on and off.

Checked the oil, and it's the right amount...so im thinking maybe the sensor or the actual oil pump going out?

Not sure, so need some insight.

Check oil pressure with car running

I'd check the plug at the sensor. Might be a bad connection or the wire is frayed.

The oil light is a pressure sensor monitor. Not an oil level monitor.

You could have a short in the wiring or the switch and or a failing oil pump.
Checking pressure at idle and warned up is a good start, but it needs to be done under loads.

First I would trace the wiring and rule out the switch, because if the pump is good you wouldn't be able to tell if it does die. Alternatively get an after market oil pressure gauge.

Thanks for the ideas, gents...my harness under the driver side fender did get scraped up by the tire and one of the wires was exposed, but all threads seemed to be there...I'll do some work after the holidays...
