im really thinking about taking my spare ka24de collection, adding a ka24e, or going to nissan and buyign some oem parts to make a high compression all motor ka. heres my questions, and yes i searched, not too crazy, i suck at searching, but i didnt come across any real solid info.
1) what exactly do you use? ive seen some posts sayign jsut single cam pistons, some sayign the entire rotating assembly.
2) are the single cam pistons/rods forged? the twin-cam are forged correct?
3) how well does it hold up? anyone know how it reacts to spray?
4) any trouble spots? timing chain? what gas to use?

Yes it's been done..a 11:1 KA with basically all the bolt-ons did 171rwhp...the guys name on the forums is "Ronin". He bought the car from a guy years agao, witht he HC motor already in it IIRC.
There's a guy on this forum documenting his build right now..."driftaholic"
1) You use SOHC pistons..there are 2 options: One set did 9.1:1 in the SOHC, the other set did 8.6:1...use those in the DOHC and you'll get 11.6:1 and 11.1:1 repsectively...
2) Rods are basically the same as the DOHC rods, and they are forged. Pistons are cast, just like stock DOHC pistons...
3) ??? Done right, it should do great. But HC + nitrous = bad stuff. You'll have to retrard the timing so much to make it safe, you might as well have run the stock static compression ratio and more timing...you'd make more power with less cost.
4) +93 octane..otherwise, you'll have to run conservative timing or you'll detonate.

Ronin's car was originally built by Rich Bjornson years ago in Michigan. The car was dynoed at 170rwhp in KC, my car laid down 155 the same day. Later than night we ran from 3rd and 4th gears, neither of us could pull any distance. While the car was fast, it was nothing hugely powerful. The gains to be had are not that impressive, and without serious tuning or a lack of driveability you're better off not spending the money.

Huh...?
You asked 4 specific questions, all of which I answered thoroughly.
And I told you about the same car Russ mentioned, including the RWHP.
If I posted the wrong answer, then you asked the wrong queston.

Look on the 2nd page of this forum (sorry, make that the CHAT section)...there was a reply to that thread yesterday!
