Ok... so i've been searching around the forum to solve the problem of the rough idle. I haven't had time to clean the AIV or anything of that sort. I came across a thread that said something about tapping the EGR or banging it since it might be closed sometimes. So i did that banging and tapping the damn thing. I take it for a test drive and now the car overheats. I just changed the thermostat like 3-4 weeks ago, new water pump about a year ago, new radiator, new hoses (upper and lower), and new belts. So wat the hell is wrong. Last time i checked, the egr has nothing to do with the overheating. Im stumped cuz i thought banging on it might helped but now its starting to show that it maybe indeed have hurted the car instead. Any info and tips would be helpful. O BTW, its ka24de, 91 s13 hatch. Thanks alot.

help anyone? also, when i tried to adjust the IAC, the idle did not change wat so ever, it stayed at or around 800 the whole time. Could there be a vacuum leak somewhere too? Thanks.

well.. of course.. first of all make sure your ignition AND distributor timing are both stock..
then try to adjust the idle when the car's warmed up..
i'm assuming you already did the above and the idle is still fluctuating.
You should take out your IACV-Air Regulator and clean it out with Carb cleaner..
I'm pretty sure it's your IACV (the air regulator one)
if you want to check to make sure.. pinch the hose that leads to it.. the engine idle speed should drop as you pinch it.
if it doesn't, it's probably clogged or faulty.
I'm having the same problem on my KA24E.
Good luck.

for your over heating, did you make you you bled the system properly? follow the upper radiator hose to the point it connects to your water pump housing. theres a little bolt (10mm) on top of where the hose meets this housing. unbolt it, take off your radiator cap, top off the radiator, then put fluid inside the hole that the bolt went into (yes INSIDE the hole). evermtually youll see coolant coming out of the hole letting you know theres no air left. close it all up, turn on your car for a few minutes to get all the fluid settled, then check and see if the radiator is still full and the little hole still is topped off. basically, all that is justgetting the air out of your system which causes overheating.
as for the idle, it doesnt take long to remove your AIV and plug it all up. the IACV seems like a bitch to get to seeing as it appears to be under the manifold. i have to check my IACV too...but because i have a VERY high idle (1500 rpm).
