Hi guys I'm in the process of rebuilding my s13 sr. I spun a rod bearing so I had to buy a rod. I bought a genuine oem rod from frsport. When I received it I went to swap over the piston and pin from the junk rod to the new rod, while doing this I noticed that the new rod isn't the same as the old ones, being the top part of the rod where the wrist pin goes is tapered on the new one. I verified that this was the correct rod with frsport after noticing this, so I am wondering what rods my old ones are. The stamping on my new one is 8H6, the stamping on the others is 12-2(Nissan symbol)79E40-1. Can anyone help me figure out what the 79E40 rods are out of? All my research says the 8H6 is the correct Rwd SR rod

Here's a picture of the difference (notice the taper on the 8H6 rod on the left)87467

I believe it to be a DE rod.

Your picture looks like your old rod is longer though.

Do those wrist pins align, or are they off by 1mm or so?

The wrist pins align, I have stock SR 79E pistons. The rods are the same length sorry for the shitty pic, the only difference is the taper you see at the top at the wrist pin hole

Part revision maybe?

In general, some are designed with taper and some are not.

Very interesting OP, I hope we get some insight from someone that knows for sure, because I've never noticed

I suspect the old rods might be out of an RNN14

Very strange. That bump is where the oiler goes 'into' . Never seen one without it, nor the tapered small end.

It has the bump for the oiler the only difference is the taper at the top

Update I bought 3 more oem Rods from frsport, they look the same as a the other rod that I bought. No idea why they are different was thinking either a part revision or the rods that were in the motor were RNN14 rods

Weird cause the one on the left is the actual oem rod for an SR they came straight from a dealer I called Nissan motor sports which is who sends the part to the dealer who sends it to frsport and confirmed the part number .
