First let me just say I'm mostly just testing the waters to see what is out there in terms of trading since the price of these cars are skyrocketing. I don't have any particular need to sell it.. But if there is a significant offer or the off chance someone wants to get rid of their NSX, I could be down for that :)

This is a 1990 Skyline GT-R imported legally through GT-R Garage. You can see this car listed on their Vehicle Inventory page, where they describe it as a "great example of a well cared-after street-spec GT-R".

http://www.gtr-garage.com/pages/vehicle-inventory

I'll also be uploaded a photo below of the binder of all the importation forms they sent me sitting on top of the desk at the DMV I took while waiting to get my car tag, but if further evidence is required I don't mind posting that.

On to the car itself, it has about 52,000 miles on it and some light mods... Some of which I don't know a lot about and there may be more I'm not even aware of right now.. But this is what I know:

K&N Pod Filters
3" Catback Exhausts and Dump Pipes
Tein Type HR coilovers
Front and Rear Strut Tower Braces
Trust FMIC
Greddy FMIC piping
Greddy Profec B Electronic Boost Controller
Turbo Timer
Recaro "Confetti" Bucket Seat
Momo Course Steering Wheel
HID Headlights
R33 GT-R OEM wheels

(below added by me)

Garage Defend Carbon Fiber Cooling Panel
Nismo Floormats
Nismo GT500 urethane shift knob
3" Test Pipe
8000k HID Bulbs
Hawk HP+ brake pads
New drilled and slotted rear rotors

It has some minor rust on the rear fender where the missing mud guard goes (I have the mudguard in the trunk), there is a crack in the front bumper lip, and the HICAS light comes on if you drive it long enough, but otherwise no other problems. The A/C even works.

Asking 24k or best offer.

It's a nice GTR, however you can get one from GTR Garage with 20k in upgrades for less.
I'm in the market for a GTR, but for what GTRs are selling for in the states, and this isn't it. I'm not bashing you, but the R32 prices are far from "skyrockeying" The demand didn't match the hype when they became legal. Good luck though.

Well Said. I am in the market for a GTR as well but seeing them no more than 21-22k this is a little higher than market value. But more power to you. Nice car it is super clean.

I'm not even going to pretend that I didn't pay substantially less for it when I bought it, but I bought this car over a year ago. I've seen articles on Autoblog and Road And Track that claim the prices have doubled, the former seems to imply that "mid-twenties" is a fair price. I can't say one way or another because I don't see GT-Rs for sale very often, especially state side. I haven't seen GTR Garage post one publicly for months, Rivsu pulled all their inventory off site and replaced with "updates coming soon", Japanese Classics LLC hasn't listed one that I've seen since the beginning of July, and Montu (who I've never actually heard of and don't know of anyone on Skyline Owners USA that have used them) only have one listed at a price of 25k with more miles and less parts. So I really don't have a good grasp on what these are going for haha.. I just put OBO so we can work backwards from there if needed.

For 30K, GTR-Garage is offering a "750HP PHOENIX POWERS 2.8L BNR32 SKYLINE GT-R"

Considering your car has rust, a broken front lip, a tempermental Hicas, I am not sure 30K is even remotely justified.

Screw what autoblog says and actually look at market prices. If not, you are going to be sitting on this one for a while.

Market price for a general civilian to purchase is 20k

Realistic GTR w/ Paperwork value $15k

GTR w/ no paperwork $8-12k

Source - Owner of multiple skylines

Post on craigslist if you want it to sit for sale while you enjoy it. If someone does over that certain amount then sell it accordingly. Make the profit margin change your mind otherwise. If I were you I would just post a nation wide craigslist ad to Florida, Chicago, Los Angeles etc. If someones buying a GTR, then they would be willing to cover shipping expenses.

I was going to state the obvious price issue but I figured Id let someone else get this one.....nice car but you can find them in better shape for 15kish and crzy built ones for under 30k

Oh man, I literally told my buddy the first night I saw this ad that you must have read some of the GTR "price skyrocket" articles that have been popping up lately.

Didn't want to say anything then since I don't like to bomb others' sales threads, but you came out and said it anyways. That being said, entry level GTRs are still low 20's in the states. I can assure you that.

I know this. The car has been listed for almost 4 months and no one has bought it even after a price drop. I have no idea why.

I've said Or Best Offer in every post I've made here haha. I'm not expecting 30k for it, I haven't seen one sell for 30k yet anywhere. I said in the first post I was looking for trades more than money in the first place. I was just afraid of saying 25k and having someone immediately PM me a cash offer and being like "Well, I guess I under priced it".

It seems like it is highly possible to get one for around 20k, but those cars only seem to pop up once every few months, and they're usually bought within a few days of being listed.

Realistic GTR w/ Paperwork value $15k.

At today's prices, I don't feel like this realistic at all. If you can find an already legal and ready to go GT-R for 15k shipped with all paperwork filed that isn't completely clapped out, then I highly suggest you buy it. Or forward it to me, and I'll buy it :)

Curious why everyone gets these now that they're legal and then turns around and sells them right away, are they realizing parts are always a couple days away? I love skylines, and plan to have one in my garage next to my FD, but I hope these don't become the new Honda.....whored out and abused.

That would only be the second one I've seen for under 20k.. And it has bubbling purple paint, the mileage is unverifiable, it doesn't say who imported it, and the seller seems to think JASMA is a performance exhaust manufacturer.

I don't think anyone is reading anything but the first post in this thread.. I guess I need to edit it.

I think you can tell my my OBO price that I don't really want to sell my car lol. It's priced at a "If you want to pay somewhere around this for it then I can't say no but otherwise I'm not parting with it" price.

As I said in the beginning, I really want to see trades. I think people are just getting rid of Skylines as soon as they get them because there is the potential to make a lot of money reselling them. I don't hate money obviously, but I was trying to think about what I would buy if I sold this car that would be worth replacing it with.. And I couldn't really come up with anything (Like what car would I buy for 25k that would be as fun as this one? An FR-S? Hell no). I was asking for fair trades to see if theres something out there I'm not thinking off or would be worth trading up for.

Around 25k is reasonable. Also check the drain plugs on both sides of the rear spats. You can access them in your trunk where the jack is. They usually get plugged up with gunk and will not drain thus resulting in rust.

It's very small, looks more like a rock chipped the paint off a part of the fender liner and it went from there. I could probably sand it off, put some primer on it, and cover it with the mud guard and no one would ever know. Just wanted to be forthcoming.

I went ahead and lowered the price to 27k or best offer. Offer means feel free to make an offer of a lower dollar amount. Or just complain. Either works :)

Straight up - you are clearly an upfront reasonable dude. Respect.

I think there's a huge miscommunication about the prices of these. The prices for R32 GTR's has skyrocketed in japan because of the fact that they're being imported to the US. But realistically, having paid loads of attention to what everyone is selling them for, the US market prices aren't going up. The number that can be imported is still going up, the rush to get the 'first ones' is over, the market will settle.

A reputable importer has a business image to maintain, and for that reason alone (even with no warrantee, explicit or implied), they are much more liable for the cars they sell, whereas there's really no recourse if X random dude sells you a bill of goods. So, given the above (prices are not going up), I think that most people expect private party value to be LESS than what you imported it for. There are enough of them coming through here, paint bubbles or no, that this also seems to be the trend.

Finally, it's a bummer when people post up stuff they aren't really trying to sell, because it clutters the listings (CL, Zilvia, wherever else) with crappy deals. Dude, I know - literally, for the right offer, I would sell anything that I own. If someone came and made me the right offer for my car (Market price plus $5k, like the GTR), I'd take it, too. But it's maybe not worth it to list my car n be like "car, worth $10k, want $15k or trade value of $15k, otherwise I'll keep it".

Clean r32. Bump for decent price.

Just to clarify things, the price has jump in Japan and gt-r with grade 4-4.5 with little to no mods go for around 20-30k with papers; alone in Japan they are starting to cost around 15-20k yen (17k usd for you zilvia idiots)

Anyways good luck with the sale!

Thanks. I haven't been looking at prices much or actively trying to sell it lately, but the last two GT-Rs my importer listed for sale are listed at 18,900 and 24,900 respectively (and the 19k one isn't legal until next year sometime).

While I'm in here, I need to mention my state has been giving me the run around on the title which is why I haven't been bumping this... Two months after I got my tag they sent me a letter saying my application was rejected because they also wanted to see the bill of sale from the original seller to GTR Garage in addition to their bill of sale to me.. I contacted them and got both, mailed them off about 3 weeks ago.. Now I'm just waiting to see what happens next.

10-20-2015, 01:23 PM
The website updated yesterday changing my status to "The application has been received by ADOR. Please allow 10-15 business days for processing".

I just called them for some clarification and was told the state sent the application back here again for a simple correction that apparently did not require me to either bring them anything else or go down there and fix anything, and she claims they got my stuff back at the state capital on the 13th. The website says the 19th... So I'm still a bit confused (I believe the status before yesterday was "Resubmitted"?).

I guess I'll know in 10-15 business days. Until then.. Here is a photo I took downtown when I went to drop off the new bills of sale to the courthosue?

Hey,

Cool, thanks for the update. Good luck dealing w/the state. Hope it all goes smooth. Car looks great! :2f2f:

Can you provide interior shots and close-ups of the engine bay. Thanks.

Also, any idea what's up with your HICAS going off? Are you noticing steering issues when it does? Do you plan on getting it fixed? Do you know what the fix is?

STeeL
10-21-2015, 07:37 AM
Not real sure what the issue with the HICAS is. I don't notice any difference in driving with the light on or off. When I first got the car, the HICAS light was always on and never went off. I had it checked at the Nissan dealer and they said the previous owner had just unplugged a connector around the diff as a poor-mans way of disabling the system (I don't think many people like HICAS). Once plugged in there was no light so they said it was all good. On the drive home about 15 mins in, it comes back on. Haven't gone back to messed with it sense though. Once you turn the car off and back on the light is out, come back on again after about 15 mins of driving.

Some people who install aftermarket steering wheels (like in my car) have problems with it sometimes because there is a sensor there to check the position of the steering wheel (and point the rear wheels based on your steering angle), but I think in that case the light would always be on.

EDIT: Thanks for asking me this question because now that I look into it I see there is actually a way to put the car in diagnostic mode without a Consult tool. I'm trying it out as soon as I get home, I'll let you know what I find :)

I'm dropping my price to $25,000. I'll take some better pics once it stops raining around here.

trade you straight up for a 2000 BMW M Roadster. The values of these are on the rise (for realzies) and they are a blast to drive. car has 73k miles, fortune auto coils, 17x9 wheels with 255 Bridgestone "Jesus" tires. heated seats, cruise, ac, etc. like most BMWs the turning indicators are lightly used.

End of the month bump. I bought some Hawk HP+ pads all around but it looks like only the rear need to be changed.. So I'll be taking care of that and putting on some new rotors this weekend or next.

Also removed the boost restrictor. That made a huuuuuuge difference.

That, with no rust, less mileage(60k km vs 80k km), no mod, and dyno runs to prove the health of engine, sold for 21k. Don't want to bash on your price but to be realistic, you're probably never going to get the asking price. And with more and more skylines becoming legalized for import every year, these aren't going to skyrocket in value any time soon. (1993 is the first year of supra jza80 so I'm thinking a lot of the high priced tt 6spd supras in the US are going to go down in price not too far, since theyre even cheaper than skylines in japan).

If I were you, I'd lower the asking price so that more people approach me with reasonable offers.
Regardless, best of luck with the sale!

I'm only asking $3,000 more than him for a car with less miles and thousands of dollars in mods, so I don't think I'm super far off base. Plenty of people are selling theirs for more, in worse condition.
