View Full Version : ECU light flashing, CEL flashing constantly

Well, I've got an RB20DET and the proper ecu, but it should work the same as other Nissan ECU's.

As soon as the ecu gets power (I hook up the battery), the LED on it starts flashing. The car starts, but seems to be in the "limp home" or safe mode or whatever. It doesn't allow you to go into diagnostics mode or check any codes, it just flashes on and off constantly...so does the CEL when the car is turned on.

Any ideas what this means? The car runs like crap and the timing is horribly reduced, and it runs very very rich. I can't figure it out and I'm going crazy wanting to drive my car since the swap is finally done.

Thanks,
Nick

Is the diagnostic screw turned fully countclockwise?

For a KA, if you turn it fully clockwise and run the car, it's in the O2 diagnostic mode, and will blink as you described.

Under normal operating, and no diagnostic, the screw should be turned all the way to the left.

Hope that helps...?

I have the screw turned more toward the opposite direction. When I turn it to try to get to diag. mode, nothing changes, it won't allow it. On the RB (maybe others), the screw can be used to adjust idle up to 250 rpms, and if you turn too far clockwise then it goes into diag mode. Mine doesn't do anything, the light just blinks no matter what when the battery is hooked up.
