You guys, from what I can gather it appears I have a very ill turbo:-/. Oil in the hot pipe and blueish white smoke from the tail pipe at extended idle. Seems to clear up when at speed. I dont have an exact identity on the Garrett that's on the motor, there is no name plate & no identifying numbers aside from the A/R .42 & m27 that is displayed on the face of the turbo. How to I go about finding the correct internals for a rebuild? Am I better off investing in a new or refurbished turbo? If so, which turbo do I choose? Im looking for as economy an option as possible & i'd really like to do a bolt on type replacement as I'm interested in a daily / occasional track car. Any suggestions from some of the more experienced guys would be appreciated.

You can't rebuild it, and if there are no identifying number there are high chances it is a chinese piece of crap.

I'll be tearing down the turbo this week, I may have a connection on a new CHRA. It appears to be an older t25

just bin that crap and get a new tech turbo... and don't ask for advices if you are not going to even read them.

So what you really plan to do is follow a right up then copy that right up with picture you've taken of your t25! Quotes will be "oil was here and then it smoked from there!"
New thread will be "my turbo make a screeching noise!";)

S15 turbo makes a good upgrade.

Right, upon teardown looks like I cannot reuse the chra housing. Time for a new turbo. There appears to be some F.o.d that came from way back when I first got this animal before I rebuilt the top end.Soundboy, what else id required with an s15 upgrade. Would it be better to just get a stock replacement properly set to 7lbs until I learn more about tuning?

Yep. Replace with a stock turbo.
A turbo upgrade usually needs injectors. Fuel pump. Plugs. And some sort of management.

Update: for the newbs like myself out there just getting started. A Gt28r turbo, the s15 turbo of course, will be the best option should this happen to you. There are economy options but if you care about your ride dont do it. Also the oem t25s are mostly used that have been sitting around for ages, finding a rebuild & re balance is just about as expensive as a new turbo. If you look around you can find a good deal. Just be sure to run the stock waste gate actuator which is set to 6psi. Cheers.
