i was wondering why all of you decided to buy a 240. My first one was because of a chance encounter with one at a dealership. it was the only car on the lot that id never seen. my second one was because the first one was rear-ended and i wanted a SE stick. well, I just felt like asking. :2f2f:

haha i have the BEST answer for this... i wanted a 92-95 honda civic si hatchback aka "EG6"... my mom found a 90 red 240sx fastback and bought it for me.. i hated the car SERRIOUSLY.. but it grew on me... i started drifting because my friend taught me how to on gran turismo 3.:) so i started sliting arround cones in the parking lot.. keep in mind that this was 2002, before i knew about initial d... so yeah i wanted the silvia front because of how it looked on gran turismo... so i bought it...1809cc was alwayse my pick!:) ca18det baybe.. i always new it had potential

I fell in love with the s14 because to me its a cheaper alternative to an M3 with the potential to outperform that car. e46 m3 is my favorite/ dream car of all time. SCC even rated the s14 higher than the e36 m3 in their list of top 100 sport compacts!!!

i loved it in 1995 when it was first release, that when i was like 13. i bought a 89 coupein 2000 when i was 18 becausae it was cheap. bout a 91 in 01 because i wanted a fastback. finally got the 95 in 2002, but felt more comfortable in a coupe so i bought a 91 coupe this year

cause it was dirt cheap and because parts on it are dirt cheap and because i need a car that is dirt cheap and paid for but still fun and potentially fast :D

Because my Civic hatchback was stolen at school and was recovered a week later in Compton. Then as I tried to buy a purple Integra LS for $6000, I found a S14 SE w/ a manual tranny for $5000. So I sold everything I could in order to buy it.

i liked the shark-like front end. i was a tool (and might still be for all i know). then one day started to enjoy the tail sliding around on the car and kept trying to go faster and faster at it.

i bought my as my first car 3 years ago. i was at an auction with my dad and uncle. (i had no clue what a 240 was or looked like. ive never seen one before) it pulled up. the guy wanted 2500. i said wow thats really nice. my uncle being a nissan tech for 16 years said man that is nice, so we told the guy we wanted to test drive it so my uncle took it out and said it ran like a champ. dad talked him down to 2k and it was mine! sorry for the long story

Wrecked my ricer in front of the Nissan dealership. I took that as a sign. Wanted to go RWD but didn'twant to be stuck with a car payment, so I decided on S13 instead of S14, or Z32. Had other financial set backs, thus the reason it's been 3 years and there's really nothing done to my car, except the bodywork that I did myself. Someday I'll even paint it.
Jeeze, 3 years and I still can't drift. I need to switch seats on this Bandwagon. :loco:

I bought mine for 2 reasons

1) I was tired of just watching drifting on DVDs and gran turismo 3. It was time I learned how to really do it.
2) I wanted a project car. Founf my coupe for 1500 and never looked back. I bought it and now I am love

The trans am was fun, but too heavy and was tired of just going in a straight line. I wanted something fun to drive (and lighter)

I was looking at 3 cars to buy. RSX type s, newer trans am, and a 240sx.

I didn't buy mine, I was handed down to me by my dad who owns a tofu shop. It was use as our delivery car and I've beend driving it ever since I was 13 delivering tofu through canyons. Rain, snow, or shine , I always had to drive it fast! Did i mention how he likes to use a cup of water as an indication so I won't smash up the tofu driving at extremely fast speeds through corners?

Seriously? I used to work in a dealership and drove a couple of miatas and s2000s, rwd feels different. Didn't likle the way miatas look, s2000 was too expensive, bought myself a 97 LE 5 speed. Needed money BAD, sold it and got myself an S13 coupe.

Reasons to buy:
1) Cheap
2) Common
3) Compatibility (with bigger and badder Nissans)
4) Lightweight
5) Easy to work on (my last performance car was a 93 Z32 TT  )
6) Ridiculously gigantic aftermarket

Reasons to avoid:
1) You might be mistaken for a 'dorifto' fanboy/wanna-be
2) Neglect/abuse
3) Rusty
4) Slow
5) Old
6) Requires participation in zilvia.net :)

I had first peeped the s14 when i back in 1996 when i was looking for my 2nd car (I got bored with the civic) but at that time it was out of my price range... so sometime later and few cars later i was able to get it.... main reasons why i like the s14.. RWD, sophisticated styling and handling

I had been looking at them since i was 17 there was one kid in school who had one but didnt like it because he had a TT Z before...well when i got outta school saved my money i bought my 96 SE 5spd (back in 02) i absolutely loved that car and no one new what it was... then i had a fight with an old woman in the lane in front of me and that 240 was toast...totalled it sold the parts got the insurance check and bought that 95 SE in my avatar....now i'm loving it the money money i drop into it...

Jesus I feel old. Are anyone of you in this thread over the age of 18?

I bought my first 240 brand new in 1995, my third car by then, because I had gotten heavily into track/autocross and wanted a strong, affordable RWD coupe. I have always owned Nissans so it was natural to buy a 240, cheaper than a Z32, better mileage, easier to work on, and less cost overall. I bought the second one 2 years later to replace my first one that was stolen. I was modding it way before the SR/drift/faggot craze ever became a trend. Shame too, because I love it so much now but hate owning it and being compared to the average 240 owner of today, 16, ignorant as hell, cheap, and lazy.

Before I had my 240 I had two e30 325i's. BMW's are too expenxive to maintain, hitting deer alot doesn't help that process either. But anyway I met some people that liked to try and think that they could drift and introduced me to Initial D. Once I sold my 325i I bought a 92 240sx off a Cop. I was the second owner of the car! I loved the response and handling which it had. It wasn't as fast as the Bimmer was so I got the SR20det and lots of other parts. I liked Yoshinori Koguchi's D1 180sx (when it was red) so I did as much as I could for I balanced set-up. I have just finished my car but still need a couple of parts for it. Automotive history would have been changed if we Americans had gotten the SR in our cars to begin with.

i got a 240 because mrmephistopheles had one and man that guy is cool, i wanted to be just like him, except i didnt wanna be a nerd, haha, not really. i bought it because its a cheap, capable chassis with lots of potential for just about anything i wanted, grip, drift or hard parking.

haha, I'd say at least half of this thread is under 18. I know how ya feel. EVERYTIME I work on my car in front of the house. (normally changing the oil) I have at least 2 kids stop me and talk forever. They proceed to tell me how they want a 240 or own one and want an SR or dual exhaust or something. :goyou:
ha, I talk like I'm old or something. I guess I just don't like that kind of mentality.

I bought mine cuz I like cars...and I needed one. Always been a fan of Nissan too. It was either a 240 or a Starion/Conquest (which is still a favorite)

My requirements in looking for a car were:

-RWD
-Lightweight
-Reliable
-Attractive Styling (I wanted something curvy, rather than squared)
-New enough to be reliable
-affordable
-Good aftermarket support

Only two cars really fit those qualifications, the Miata and the S14. I'd briefly had a Miata (NA6C) and didn't like it, so that left me with the S14. Additionally, I was getting into drifting at the time, and the success of the 240 / Silvia was a large part of the attraction.

I'll open with a quote:

I was modding it way before the SR/drift/faggot craze ever became a trend.

...the average 240 owner of today, 16, ignorant as hell, cheap, and lazy.

Amen.

Now, I bought my '96 SE in April of 1997 based on the styling and the price.

I quickly learned it was VERY capable and fun to drive...I learned all I could, started modding it, then enlisted the help of a few other who knew a little more than me at the time (^^^ Russ included, thanks), and it grew from there.

Auto --> Manual in '98

~160rwhp N/A in '02

Non-intercooled KA turbo setup in '03

13psi in '04...

With lots of track events, street miles, auto-x and such in between.

And now I've owned a total of 5 S-chassis cars...hehe. Still have 2...

30 years old. And still can't believe that after all this time, all the posts, lists, forums, and all the resources available, these kids keep asking the same stupid questions over and over again. It was a different world when I was modding my first S14, you called Stillen and ordered what they had. You did your own work, and learned as you went. You wanted Z brakes, you bought a set and tried to see if they'd fit or not, none of this crying BS that the majority of 240 owners do now. "My mom says I can't put my SR in yet because I haven't paid her back for the 17x7, +45s I just bought, but as soon as I do I'll be pushing 400hp and I'll race anyone illegally on a busy, crowded street."

When the trend fades, life will be better, until then, I just drive my car and hope the others crash, burn, and die.

I did lots of homework after my chevy lumina got wrecked. I needed a reliable car that was fun to drive. I wanted either an integra, a celica or a 240sx. I really came close to getting a 92 integra with 22k miles for around 2.8k but that fell through. a week later I was walking down the street and walked right by white 95 240sx. I knew I needed to get one. I was looking frantically by this time because my rental was a neon and i had to give it back in about a week. My mom, who works at a hospital saw an add for one posted on a board. It was a 95 with 70k miles for 4k. I test drove the car and it great although it hadn't been well cared for. The brakes needed to be replaced and so did the exhaust, so i talked her down about $600 and the car was mine.

Drifting wasnt a selling point for me, didnt really know about it til 01-02. my dads friend had one in the early 90s, my bro had one in 97, first car i drove on teh streets underaged. got mine in 01, but wasnt given to me til 02. im 20 now.

I liked the 240 cuz it was different and rear wheel drive. I respect that true sports cars are rear wheel drive (not front wheel drive). Back in 02 when i first started driving.. it was cool ordering aftermarket parts for it etc cuz it wasnt soo mainstream yet.. I got alot of "Cool your building up a 240sx!!"... now i get stupid Autozone employes "you should put an sr in that thing" or the countless question from people "are you selling this?" or "did you just buy this??" which I find annoying because my car looks like a POS right now , people assuming that its for sale or I just bought it... :jerkit:

Lets say if I was to buy a rwd car today if I didnt have the 240, id probably go FC, oldskool 240z, or even consider a Starion... Just something different. FC and 240z would be perfect since they got tons of aftermarket and aint getting killed for commercializing as "cheap drift cars".

Im not to happy with the way the car scene has gone.. seems to be a big craze now, bringing more and more people into drift and fixing up cars, companies tryin to make money off eveyr way they can. where alot of these newbes dont know jack or even have mechanical skills...

I got into an accident and I needed a car so i went to mitsubishi and looked a gst, across the street was a lexus dealership and in front was a red kouki s14. So i ditched the sales guy and ran accross the street because it looked sexy. I basically bought it because its was rare and *was* unkown, but drifting got popular and now everyone has one. sad but 240's are becoming the next honda..

Fun car to drive. Has beautiful design for almost all of the models, and of course has crazy potential.

Drifting was one more point that inspired me to do so :jerkit:

The reason i got my 240sx is because of my mom. My mom had a 92 with all the options. The car was black sunroof 5spd. I loved everything about that car, it was my dream untill it got total. every since then it was my dream to own 1 and now i finally got 1 of my own

I watched some clips of d1, then I vowed that I too was born to drift. From that day on, I lived and breathed 240's. I had dreams of one day being the next drift king. Being the 16 y/o that I was, it was about time for me to get my first car. So I looked in the paper, and showed my dad the ad. So we met up with the owner, and I drove it around for the first time....

God did it handle. That first drive was pure bliss. I could tell that the car was rwd just by the way it hugged the curves. Then I saw it. The turn that I would devirginize. It would be my first drift... I made a fast entry, maintaining my speed throughout the corner. Then after the apex, I cocked the wheel hard and smashed the gas. I felt the front wheels break traction, so I feathered the throttle to hold the drift. I knew this 240 must have a stock vlsd because of the way it made the tires scream. From that moment on, I knew that I was headed for fame...

My first one was a 95, not gonna lie, I bought it after seeing some Option Vids. After I slammed that one into the back of an SUV @60mph I figured that I needed another one, I mean Sh!t No airbags, but only minor injuries (in my opinion) and after all that.....the shit still ran. No Radiator, transmission mounts screwed to hell. (couldn't get it into or out of gear) Relay box under the hood in 12 diff sections. I mean after all that, I couldn't live withut another one.

cause replacement parts on a 944 just cost to much and insurance too.

I always wanted to race legally but being poor the cheapest way was solo 2.So I went and want to see the cars that do good and cheap.I saw a few 510's and they did good.I went and search hard and It's either it's cheap because it's a fixer or it's to expensive because it's close to factory stock. My friend told me about the 240sx and did'nt know what their ability was.I search the net(here) and saw nothing but good things. So here I am a proud owner of a coupe.

i was in the junkyard two and a half years ago, looking for some parts for my car at the time. i looked over and saw something that really caught my eyea 89 240 coupe. I'd never seen one before and i ended up looking at it for about 45min. i didn't know it was rwd or anything else about it, but i knew one day i would have one, and now i do, a 89 sil80

My brother bought a 240sx in 92 and used to work on it a lot. I've loved black chuki hatchbacks cause of his since I was in first grade. He drives a 01 lude now tho but the 240 is still in his garage (doesn't run) sitting on 4 flat tires. He's the one who won't let me ever drop an SR in my car (he and his friend's were into building KA-T setups)

Because I had an 00 Eclipse GT and wanted something that was more tunable...I did tons of research for months and months looking and weighing the pro's and con's of about 3 cars(MKIII, MR2 Turbo, 240sx) and I came to the conclusion that the 240 is one of the most awsome tunable cars on the planet...

I got my car because it had: a front seat, a steering wheel, pedals, and an engine. o yea, and hail dents. those were about 5 hp each, in total i think I'm at 1600 some odd rwhp. beat that!

I bought a drift car with every intention to make it a handling car. I just have no interest in drifting. I think I may be the only one. I was driving out of a cayon here at 100, and was feeling nervous, i didnt want the rear to slide. It stayed secure. Anyone else turning their car into a cornering machine?

I had two honda preludes before my nissan...I got rear-ended in both! So, after some thought, I had narrowed my choices down to a few cars...300ZX TT, MR2 Turbo, or a 240sx...The only reason the 240 made the list was because I LOVED the way the S14's looked (the others because they were factory turbo)...I thought the lines were great, and knew one would look hot lowered, on some rims (the only thing I could afford)...After a couple of months searching, I just could not find a clean 300Z or MR2...I happen to see an ad for a 240 in the recycler...I drove to the dealership where it was and fell in love at first sight...a beautiful 95 240SX SE...I never looked back...
