I have taken steps to ensure the vehicle will be as reliable as possible.

1. No knock off parts.
2. I recently pulled the engine for maintenance and replaced all the gaskets on the exhaust side, and installed a brand new clutch.

$15k?! You're going to need a fucking AMAZING parts list to even come near $10k. I just don't see where you guys are getting your pricing from. These are NOT rare classics that command vintage car pricing. These are econo cars from the 90s. This is what your car is worth in excellent condition...$2,500. Can you ask for more than that? Certainly, but please realize that here on Earth, we aren't going to pay more than what something's worth. Sick of seeing these cars grossly overpriced on these forums.

So let me get this straight. You're asking nearly what this car cost new 18 years ago? Just because it's old does not make it a classic car. Come up with a realistic price if you actually want realistic offers.

I am not ragging on your car; it's very nice. It's just not $15k nice. You're asking nearly what my 2007 Audi A6 is worth, and this ain't an Audi bruh.

Its just 50% of the cost of the parts. Traditional part-out prices is usually 50% for used parts. Fairly standard across the board.
And then there is the labor/maintenance rarity aspect. You do not usually see complete 240s, with updated maintenance in every aspect, that need literally nothing, just drive it for years to come.

Again, this isn't my first 240. It also happens to be a blank slate. Many cars are customized with trinkets; this one is ready for customization, personalize it with your own taste. If I sell the other 240 I have, I Will personalize it for mine, definitely some kind of design on the hood and sides, like a traditional race car might have. power coatings or shiny pieces in the bay, you know the drill.

You pay more for a complete package, finely maintained and tuned by someone who knows what they are doing. Its not just a pile of parts; it is a symphony of performance and economy.

I like the car, not shitting on this at all.

But this is by no means a blank slate. Swapped built sr-20, z32 brakes, rims, skirts, valances etc... is not a blank slate lol.

However Good luck with selling this.

Those are all entry level OEM parts in every aspect, it does not even have a spoiler.

I think you want a car without a single part inside it. I have one like that for sale also, another "blank slate" if you will. Just a different kind, with USDM parts instead.

This blank slate just happens to be nimble, quiet and loud.

Love this. Everything seems proper. I think a lot of people don't uderstand that if you buy a similar car at $7K, you're still going to have to invest a lot more time and money to get it as clean as something like this is. Looks like no shortcuts were taken.

for 1k more id rather get these super clean Rb25 kouki.

http://zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=608296

[b] Dont get me wrong, this S14 looked great, But for 13.5k with only having an SR seems to be a bit much. If you want to get most of your money back part the car out thats the only way but i see you MAYBE getting 10k AS IS. Not a penny more, i Hope you do sell it for your asking price but lets just face it not the average Zilvia member or 240 owner has 13k to dish out for a pretty close to stock S14 (Only thing not stock to this car is the Engine and maybe a couple other parts.). Hell i can get a pretty clean FD between 12k-18k.

Anywho Best of luck for you with this sale bro, Deff a 240 that has been well taken care of.

It looks like the green car will be easier to sell. There is no way I am letting Updated rules go easy. Its very hard to find a reliable 240 with an sr20 these days, and Updated rules (the white car) has had the same engine with the same turbo / compression in it for the past 10 years driving fine, I expect to get another 5-10 years out of it at least. Although its been quite boring just driving a car, now that maintenance is all kept up with it. I Have to check my log (its on my build thread) yet I feel like this car is good for 4-5 years on maintenance, considering I just literally did almost everything one can do to update it (clutch/gaskets/mounts/fluids). I Just drove it 260 miles here to Orange city, FL (if anyone local wants to meet up, I have time while I am here on vacation) and I am loving this car, more than any 240 I have ever owned, just the way it drives and the options you have with it (want it quiet? flip the switch. Want it loud? flip the switch).

So I am cruising on the highway at 70~mph and writing down my EGT/fuel injector duty with the open exhaust and a very loud mustang pulls besides me.
I write "980*F / 8.8%") and then set my pen down, and wave. He wants to go. So I flip my switch to quiet, all exhaust noise from my car disappears. Then I hit the boost controller up for .87 bar (I hope the mustang is N/A) and wave him to go. He wants me to go first, haha. Big mistake. I put into 4th and step down gradually. Since my car is deathly silent now I assume he was waiting for it make some noise.... and so by the time he realizes I am going, it is too late.

Why don't you do what you were talking about with putting all the stuff from the white car into the green one because it was a better chassis and just basically swap the shells. And then sell the white one?

Kingtal0n

Why don't you do what you were talking about with putting all the stuff from the white car into the green one because it was a better chassis and just basically swap the shells. And then sell the white one?

because the white one has $2000 in body panels and $3000 in paint that I cant afford to replicate. And a release steering wheel, have you ever removed one of those? I haven't. Plus that sounds like work. Why take apart a good running car for no reason? I'll deal with a cosmetically worse off frame and just drive it, drive it everywhere. Its no show car, its a daily. It just kinda looks like a show car you wouldn't drive.

On the other hand, for the right price I would totally swap engines. You want the white chassis bare? Lets see,
$3800 97' kouki chassis
$3000 paint
$2000 body panels
$500 steering wheel & accessories
$400 JDM VLSD
$700 Z32s on all 4 corners w/ working E-brake
$2000 Nismo coilovers
$XXXX clifford alarm keyless, oem tie rods, oem tc rods, dvd player, AEM wideband, walbro

add it up and make an offer I guess, usually around half value on parts is market price.

Hmmmmmm.... Maybe that didn't come off the way I was meaning it to be taken. I was just suggesting something you had previously mentioned in the other car thread, or at least i thought I had read that correctly.

I get it is a lot of work. Hell I have a car I need to swap everything over on and I am dreading doing this because I don't have luxuries like lifts or anything and minimal tools. So it definitely is not easy like it could be in shops.

Sorry forget I even mentioned it man. Just hate to see that neither of your cars are getting chosen and puts you in an awkward spot. GL hopefully I won't see this hear in three months still waiting to get sold.

where have you seen a 97/98 240sx listed for sale at $2500 in excellent condition? if that is all the car is worth then $2500 would be the normal asking price for these cars and they wouldnt be selling for double or more what you think they are worth

Yeah I See zenkis going for 5k. market is backwards.

I sold an all original kouki with 90k~ for $10,000 at the same exact time someone else sold theirs for about the same, this was 8-9 months ago. I miss the leather D:

You can estimate the value of a 97/98 using my software
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a90/kingtal0n/Green_Kouki5/ok_zpscqdqa0ui.jpg (http://s9.photobucket.com/user/kingtal0n/media/Green_Kouki5/ok_zpscqdqa0ui.jpg.html)

It works two ways. One is it compares the price of the car new, along with age related wear. so if you set mileage to zero and everything to perfect the price mirrors a brand new car, but with aged components that need replacement deducted from the cost.
The second thing is I have done is a simple log formula that outputs values very close to what you actually see these cars selling for based on mileage and body condition.
It also teaches the user what pinch is, frame rail, how to raise the car to protect these parts, and more. I can add much more to it ( I am in vacation time right now ) but Im also sleeping alot. a-LOT.

The only trade I would be interested in would be a completely (completely) stock, all original, 95-98 240sx auto, must have ALL original paint, all original body panels, clean frame rails, clean pinch welds, and must pass a visual inspection by myself. A 95 model, 4-lug, no sun roof, is ideal.

cnichols
08-06-2015, 09:14 AM
I have something very close to what you're describing that I just picked up. 95, all original everything, Texas car, so it has some UV/heat wear/tear, but pretty solid and never touched...4 lug, but does have a non-leaking, fully functional sunroof. I'm just not a huge fan of the champagne color and want a white 240 again. I'll get some pics of the rails and pinch welds and see if there's any interest in a trade + money on my end.

^ ^

I just came back from vacation, drove 230 miles home from Orangle City.

I know I've got a horrible habit, but I just can't help myself. Every couple of minutes I have to put my foot down and feel the surge of power and then coast back down, but I keep the engine from experiencing a complete vacuum and of make it profitable by playing with the commander, looking for improvements I could make while I have this opportunity. I kept writing down EGT vs fuel injector duty vs speed on a card that I can use later to make a graph about fuel efficiency at some point. These are moments out on the highway with not a car in sight that I pop on the dome light and make these little scratches on a note card.

At one point, with the engine noisy as all hell, as I was passing an on-ramp around a few cars, hiding behind them was a highway patrol car as he got on the highway next to me. Well, he got behind me after he noticed me (my car was loud as hell at that point). I kept on gliding along for about 30 seconds, speeding up and slowing down a little to show him I wasn't scared to tune my car up a little. Then, I closed my exhaust system and put my windows down.

Well, he must have been thinking that was just great. Almost immediately, he pulls up and passes me, and just keeps on going. I could almost hear him thinking "keep that thing shut kid". And then imagined my response, "but officer, it improves fuel economy and lowers egt this way. Just look at this notecard here... "

That wasn't the only fun I had, either. Along the way, a loud GTO came into view (almost as loud as my car, maybe the same). I normally cruise along on the right side, below speed limit, far from other cars (I avoid all other cars and let them pass, and get a good couple of miles in front of me before I put the pedal down). Well this GTO had passed me, and hearing my exhaust I suppose, started slowing down to line up with me, or so I thought. Well I was in a great mood for this of course. So I slowed down too, forcing him to keep decelerating to line up with me if he really wanted to. I was curious if he would I guess. I Noticed he had a passenger and the guy flicked the ash of a cigarette out the window. It didn't anger me or anything, but I do not like the smell. My attempt to slow down and get rid of him didn't work, so... what do you think I tried next? My adrenaline was pulsing in my ears and my head felt light, and I realized, "wow it still happens to me sometimes". When I started speeding up a little bit to pass now, I wondered what he would do.

He would have none of that, however. As soon as he saw me approaching he started inching up in speed as well. His car was in overdrive still, and as I expected, he was waiting for my car to make some noise. I left my car in fifth too and just started inching up on him, ten cars, five cars, I slowly put my pedal down, three cars, at which point he must have realized that he needed a better gear to keep me from passing, which is when I heard him downshift. Heh, I downshifted too, 4th gear speeds, we both put our feet down, me about two car lengths behind him. But not for long. His car was no slouch but I had passed him within a few seconds, and put a few cars on him just to be sure. And then I gently tapped my brakes :D, allowing the car to fly by me of course, never saw him again.

That was funny. It would have been great if you teased him by just staying in front of him, even when he accelerated.

Sick of seeing these cars grossly overpriced on these forums.

you can't go by KBB for this car..its not stock and the market for these is way more than 2500....the engine alone is worth other 2500 lol his car is built and done right..will he get what he wants and has into it? most of the time no...but his car is very clean and nice...you don't know cars if you are trying to say its only worth a little more than 2500 going off KBB

Oh come on man! Go look at his build thread. This car is done properly, and by a person who knows what they are doing. You're dreaming if you think he will take 2500 for this car. It's a 13k car all day. A 2500 240 is a project car, this needs nothing.

You are crazy if u think kouki is worth nothing but book value. You would be stupid to sell these cars for that. Why even bring up kbb. Kouki sell well
Above that all day. I never seen a kouki sell for $2500. A busted up one will even get double that.

Check this one out. http://zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?p=5938098#post5938098

I'm sure it Sold quick and he could
Have asked 10-12k and someone still would of bought it. Kouki sell better than and other 240sx. Look up the production numbers. Not many where made. Look up this guys post. He goes around bashing everyone price on their for sale thread. He thinks every single car is overpriced. Lol.

Thanks for noticing :D actually I applied a discount to those parts, since they are used. The prices you see listed are generally not the prices I paid, but rather, what I feel the parts are worth USED if I were to part the vehicle out. This way the value is more realistic for todays used market. And it would also serve as a parts list in the rare case I suddenly decide to part the vehicle out (unlikely).

This is awesome. This is the kind of stuff that makes you want to get out and drive. For the love of the car, the love of the road. Well done sir.

This guy is obviously a noob to the schassis scene. I'm surprised you took the time to explain it to him. Obviously doesn't understand the rarity of a clean sr20 kouki.

Very nice car and worth the money. GLWS

Now at 13700 this car is fairly priced and should sell for around that. You just can not compare a clean kouki to all the missiles out there they are not easily obtained any more. This car is not a track car it is a nice weekend driver for a enthusiast who wants to maintain and care for a future classic.

ya guys gota understand, I am not trying to sell the car. I talk people out of buying it all the time because I am still driving it. I cannot afford to sell for less than it costs to build my project up (I don't need the money besides for building the next car) This car is only here in case somebody absolutely has to have it. I know what is done to the car, and have put 20,000 really fun miles on the vehicle since owning it, and look forward to 20,000 more. Especially now that I have a bunch of rebuilt transmissions for it. :D

The absolute two best things about owning a 240sx IMO
1. The car never depreciates if you do not wreck or un-wisely modify
2. the entire sr20 drivetrain of a 240sx can be swapped in a single day. That means this car is a reliable daily for as long as I keep it, with only 1 day of downtime should the worst case scenario occur.

Did you all see? I don't take breaks.

The shroud is just for looks. it slips out in 5 seconds. It does not need to be there to cool the engine (the rad has electrical SPAL fans and never needed a shroud). I only put in the shroud so I could add my personal touch to the car. I'd like to keep it if I sell the car.

LOL

Apparently he's just using this 'forsale' thread as a build thread and not trying to sell the car.

You mean you don't know how to take off a fuse box cover?

Well allow me to help you. First, you pull it, upwards in a motion similar to turning on a light switch.

And then, ... well thats it. The fuse box cover is off, its in your hands, and you can then place any other fuse box cover you want onto the fuse box. Grand total of 3.412 seconds to change the cover back to a stock black plain jane variety. I hope this was both instructive and informative.

If you didn't buy the car then hop off. Stop nit picking. Some people like different things. He didn't need to build his OWN car to your liking. We all have the same interests in a particular car model and should be a helpful community not talking crap. Build your own car how you like it. Don't do the crayon paint job of it too gay for you. Move on
