ok so I go to start my 240 today and it starts, but it starts rough and idles for about 15 seconds and then shuts off and it doesn't start again. I just got it so I dont know too much about it so any suggestions on what I should do to get it running again would be appreciated. also I searched, but every time I looked in a thread it just said to go search. :wtf: anyone and everyones help will be greatly appreciated. thanks!

legin: could be ANYTHING. Check EVERYTHING you can. Your symptoms are WAY too general from any of us to e-diagnose.

Kevin..you shit....

Sounds like a vacuum leak to me...if it starts, runs then dies, chances are it could be a vacuum leak...Legin...does the engine shake & run real rough when it's running? If it does, then it could be a vacuum leak. Check for disconnected, broken, cut, melted vacuum lines. Also listen for a LOUD hissing sound while the engine is running. Usually vacuum leaks will cause your car to stall & not restart.
Sounds like you need a Factory Service Manual.....
http://ffdet.com/members/rich/Manuals/240sx-93/
It should work provided your 240 isn't a 89-90 or 95-98.
Anyhow, check your vacuum lines first & see if that does any good.
Let us know what happens...good luck!!

if it's slow and then dies, ur ignition timing can be off...thats wut happened to my MA70 after BHG work.

My s13 has been slow as hell to start and will sometimes spudder down a little bit,but doesn't shut off. Usually it consists of me cranking the key, engine firing,me working the gas pedal to try to get it to run, engine barely firing, engine stops. Me try key again...Only the first time I start it for the day though, after the 'bitch start' it usually fires right up.

thanks for the info, I woulda never guessed it would be a vac problem, I havent had a chance to work on it yet but I will tomorrow, if everythings fine with the vac, is it possible its the dizzy? also when I bought the car it would idle at 700 no matter what. given that you all know it idled at 700 would that change anything? becuase I thought that when you get a vac leak you get idle surge...

x amount of air metered + y amount of air not metered = not enough gas for x+y amount of air.

Okay...I APOLOGIZE if I went off the deep end, but to be honest...people don't give enough information about their specific car problem when they post. Often they don't mention what model year their car is, 89-90=SOHC engine, 91-94 DOHC engine - OBD I, etc.

I'm glad to see that you did make the effort to read the Chilton's manual...some people on here, (Zilvia), don't bother & expect everyone on here to spoonfeed them the answer. Regretably Chilton manuals are often a poor source of information when it comes to troubleshooting problems with the 240. The information listed in Chilton's is incomplete & doesn't give you drawings as references.

Had you checked the link I listed previously, you would have seen a website that allows you to download a FREE Nissan Factory Service manual which shows all the troubleshooting procedures along with diagrams showing what they look like & their location. Should you decide to download the free FSM you'll find the information there more helpful than the Chilton's manual you've been using.

Anyhow, I hope you are able to figure out what's causing your engine problems....good luck with the repair...

Dude.. pull your head out of your ass. I don't know where you're getting this attitude from, but it needs to got right back there. idlafie was TRYING to help you. Unfortunately, help is a 2 way street, and if the person asking for help isn't paying attention or is ignoring the person trying to help, it's a fruitless effort.
Tug on your shoulders REALLY hard and maybe you can get your head out of there.
idlafie was trying to HELP YOU, just like he does with everyone here. Look at his posts. Pretty much all he ever does is help people. He helped me back when I was getting into the swing of things. He's a nice guy.
I understand your reaction was something on the order of 'OMFG, this guy just blasted me! WTF? What a dick!'. Again, your ignorance is clear to us all. If you'd read what he wrote, you'd see it was just him expressing exasperation because you ignored what he'd posted for you.
Wake the fuck up and don't be such a selfish cockbite.

and your ignorance is clear as well. good job on stirring up dust, after he just apologised. :hammer: people on the internet these days man! I swear.

just because I have what... 45 posts doesn't mean I am an interweb newbie. I did everyting right on my end, and I realized... "ok I cant figure this out, I have searched the intera web and the chiltons, and called all of my local buddies with 240's, and now its time to start a thread, and possibly someone may have an answer." good job on being ignorant. you fail at life. :bigok: :smash:

Legin........one of the things that SUCK when people post to zilvia.net is that we don't know JACK SHIT about the poster. Unless you say in your initial post that you've had your s13/S14 for so long, you're familiar with the engine, you've done repairs on it & you're having a problem with a certain type repair, all the rest of us guys that have been here don't have a clue. The only indicator is the amount of posts you've listed here. And EVEN THAT doesn't tell us how mechanically inclined you are!! All it tells us is that you like hanging round here like the rest of us nuts!!

You have to understand dude, people just get tired of some people coming on here throwing 'tudes. Moderators like Mrmephistopheles have to put up with a LOT OF crap & often have their patience tested..you would too if you moderated here...just check some of the posts...Anyhow, once you get to know Mrmephistopheles you'll find out he's cool people...He'll back your shit up...

Anyhow dude I hope you get your car running like it should....we'll try to help you if we can....

You're a tool and are unworthy of my time.
Unfortunately for me, I'm a moderator and should address your concerns.
When I opened the thread, he hadn't replied yet. I open about 10 windows at a time (saves time when I have to check alot of threads) and it sometimes takes me awhile to get to posting in some.
I'm SURE you understand what I'm talking about since you're not an 'interweb newbie'.
Also, FWIW, idlafie should NOT have apologized. He was never in the wrong. He's just such a damned nice guy and didn't want to stir shit up.
Unfortunately for him, he was dealing with someone who couldn't grasp the concept of someone helping them.
Notice how idlafie posts the link for the manual on 08-17-2004 04:26 AM, and you don't thank him till 08-19-2004 08:33 PM (keep in mind that the times may not jive with yours as I'm in JDMVille). So instead of flaming him when he posted that you hadn't noticed the link like you did at 08-19-2004 03:13 AM, only to have him apologize because he's a nice guy, and me jump your ass for being a prick, you could've said 'Hey! I didn't notice that. Rock on!'

Ultimately, we're right and you're fucking stupid.... I mean wrong.
look at your original post.

You don't tell us SHIT in this post. The only facts I gather out of it are that you have a 240sx and it has a hard start/rough idle condition which eventually shuts the motor down. You don't tell us if it's a KA24E, or an OBDII KA. Hell, you could have an SR or CA for all we know.
I don't care if you're an internet newbie, or a newbie here.
I care that you treat other users with the respect they deserve.
If you'd come back and flamed Drift Style S14 for his useless post (which it was, Drift - I'm not being mean, I'm being blunt), I could understand that. It wasn't helpful. Instead you decided to flame someone who happens to give a shit and wanted to help you.
This isn't a matter of being a newbie AT ALL. It's a matter of being a jerk.
Nobody likes a jerk, especially an e-jerk. I'm allowed to be one in this case, because this one jerk can keep Zilvia relatively free of other jerks.
Keep talking trash about ignorance, I like irony.
Actually, I don't think I've failed at life at all. Granted, I'm a bit on the longer path towards a college education, but I've had a pretty successful life so far.

All flaming aside: next time READ the posts people reply to you with. Diego never wouldn't been frustrated had you not ignored the link he gave you. Then you wouldn't have been upset with him, and me up set with you.
This whole drama is stemming from a simple thing like reading a post.
