I just got new rear upper control arms on my coupe so I could dial out some of the tire killing camber I was having. I installed them relatively easily. Here are some pics of the car with them on... My Aero bumper should be painted this week... I will update when its on.

Oh and I got another bike.... this ones definitely the fastest thing I have ever ridden or driven, period. So far my balls have carried me to an indicated 186mph with room for a little more... once I get leathers I am going to go for the 12,500rpm rev limit and see just how fast she will go.

geez, how much room on the bike is there for balls, luck and 186mph?
Why wait for leathers? At that speed it won't make any difference.

Nice find for 4-lug.
The difference with this car and your last was that now you're building an SR now isn't it? I forgot and was just curious as to why not just build up the engine outside the car and then swap it into the green one you had. They're both S13's w/ silvia conversions so I'm just lost as to why you didn't stay with the same green shell. Turtle power.

thx247- Yea your right... they wouldnt make a difference but they are a hell of a confidence booster.
240stilo- I get bored with the cars actually... and the other car had an sr as well, i just kinda grow out of them. Or I will get new ideas along the way and instead of changing the car sinking more money into it, I sell it, recoup my investment, or make a profit, and get to start all over again. Hell, anticipation of the completed car is sometimes more fun then actually having it to drive.
Steeles- The bike is an 03 Yamaha R1

Nice bike, an 02-03 R1 will prolly be my next. Unless i hold out for KTMs new 990 Duke next fall.
As for the top speed......you nailed it when you said "indicated". Take a GPS along next time. Though completely stretched out, w/ bolt ons the bike will probably GPS in upper 180s.

How long does it take to stop a bike at 180mph? @200mph with 1g of braking its a quarter mile. Lollers
Whats a bike brake at?

I dunno in G's, but i've ridden an R1. You can slow down from 140mph confidently and quickly with 2 fingers using only the front brakes with your other hand off the handlebar.

R1s easily have strong enough front brakes to snatch the ass end off the ground at 100+mph
thx247

Just curious because a bike doesn't have all that much rubber on the ground compared to a car.
Bikes wiegh less though and you can manually control brake bias ..right hand front brake, right foot rear brake. Also a regular street bike tire compares to a hoosier for cars. They only last about 2500 miles and they get really sticky. Also the suspension is pretty trick on a stock street bike. Adjustable shocks & spring preload. Lightweight vehicle, really short brake lines, good fluid, a high tech braking system, good pads and rotors and calipers adds up to fast, efficient, and responsive braking with minimal fade.

Perfect size for an S13 or S14. What are they and do they come 5 lug in the same size?

Weight isn't an issue when it comes to stopping. Weight and inertia are directly related, so to stop in the same distance a car just needs more braking power than a bike does stopping in the same distance. The only variable between a properly setup car and a properly setup bike is surface area on the tire, and the car just wins. Now maybe in general most sport bikes are more "setup" than your typical car, but unless most sport bikes can brake over 1g, you're looking at almost a quarter mile to stop from 180mph.
http://www.sportrider.com/ride/146_9510_rss/ has the only article I've seen on braking distances. That bike (whatever it is) can out brake my 240 by 10 feet from 60mph.
Anyone have any data on how hard a bike can stop?
IN a single stop, a bike should compare to a well setup sports car, but on the track, the braking system will handle more abuse (right?)
thx247

A bikes braking system will handle more abuse? I dunno...probably not. It uses the same components as a cars brakes, same materials etc so it should be limited by the same factors that limit a car. Until we see some numbers we won't know if a bike can stop as well as a car.
The brakes on a bike are pretty big and they are stopping only 15-20% of the weight . A lot of people run track days on stock brakes on a bike with slicks that could reach 160mph on the straights.
suspension/brakes for Yamaha R1
Suspension/Front 43mm inverted telescopic fork w/adjustable preload, compression and rebound damping; 4.7" travel
Suspension/Rear Single shock w/piggyback reservoir and adjustable preload, compression and rebound damping; 5.1" travel
Brakes/Front Dual 320mm floating discs w/4-piston calipers
Brakes/Rear 220mm disc w/2-piston pin-slide caliper
Tires/Front 120/70-ZR17
Tires/Rear 190/50-ZR17

We can't compare apples to oranges here, an R1 is a purpose built bike right? So lets compare it to a purpose built car.
When you do that I can take my 911's stock brakes to the track without any problems as well.
Cars look pretty silly when you compare a top of the line racing bike to a Mazda 323.
My interest isn't in what vehicle has the better brakes, its in which one can stop quicker. I'm still convinced that a bike will stop in a longer distance than a car with similar tires simply because a car has more rubber on the road.

playin devils advocate a lil here.......but the engine/trans hanging over the ass end of the porsche has a lot to do with its braking ability compared to other cars.

one more thing to consider about motorcycles........
Under serious braking from speeds like that, locking the front tire isnt really your biggest concern (that should say something for the traction being applied right there). The rest of the bike trying to wrap itself around the front axle is more of a concern.

uhhh no. Your biggest concern should be locking up your front wheel. There's almost no time for correction. If you do an endo or lock up the rear wheel you can save it most of the time.
THX: an R1 is the standard for sportbikes. A 911 isnt a standard sportscar.
An R1 is 11,000 dollars. I would compare it to a RX8 or a 350Z. I tried searching for 100-0 distances but all i found were times. Comparing them to sportscars, you are right...the cars stop faster.
The R1 is even with a Corvette, but the models are older. I know for a fact the Z06 out-brakes the new M3 but i dont know how the M3 compares to the M5, but the M5 clearly stops faster than the older R1
HERE (http://www.syclone.freeserve.co.uk/zero_100_zero.htm) is the chart i found which is borrowed from a magazine

ive been riding motorcycles for over 10 years, and ive never had an instance where i had to stop from high speed and had the thoughts "oh shit the front end feels like its about to lock up and wash out".
only time ive ever had a front wheel feel like it was going to come out from under me was under severely quick braking at LOW speeds.

i rode for only 14 months and i was never worried about the bike doing anything except locking up wheels. The bike is balanced on it's own. THe rider causes any imbalance. As far as i'm concerned the bike never wanted to "wrap" around the front. I could brake as hard as i wanted to until i reached the point of traction.
Also what's high speed and low speed? Over and under 100mph?
p.s. if you rode crap bikes like anything lesser performing than a Honda f2 or an fzr600..your insight is on a different level.

no offense, but 14 months is a lil different than 10 years, and ive owned a 96 FZR600 and a 95 600F3.....................
by "wrap itself around the axle" i mean the bike has more tendancy to want to pull the back wheel off the ground before it wants to lock the front tire. If you are locking the front wheel somehow at 100+ mph you are doing something very wrong, and typically wouldnt walk away from it.
ok so you were talking about doing an endo. I find that seating position largely affects that. I guess it has to do with the quality of your tires. If you front's cant take the load of the bike slowing down they will slip. I rode a 96 fzr600 also..and tire choices were crap so i guess that had something to do with it.

I call that a 'stoppie'.
Longest i've been able to do one was 7 seconds!
Done a wheelie for 28 seconds though.
Vice City cops didn't even care!
i've done a wheelie for like 3 minutes on the dirt bike. Vice city cops are the best ..just dont piss them off cause they start appearing out of nowhere and they always know where you are

how the heck do u keep those wheels flush?
i only have 16 x 8 +32 but i need 18mm spacers to clear the Z brakes and i stickout WAY further...
u have an extra half inch width, and much lower offsets...
dang i need to do something about that.
