Isnt it amazing how knowing how to drift can save you out in the real world. I in no means consider my self a jay de em tight drifter yo! , but i do it ocasionally for fun since im more into auto cross and drag than anything else.
But anyway i was making a left on bald tires ( asshole ) and the street was alittle wet at about 45- 50 mph ( asshole to me again ) and the back end of the car came around on me, i simply lifted a little bit of throttle and countersteered and came out straight and kept going like if nothing.
What really tripped me out was that my brain didnt even process what was going on until after it was over, it was like second nature or instinct. Then i thought how most normal drivers would have hit the brake and oversteered right in to the concrete dividing you from the canal.
Well it was stupid to go that fast on a wet street with baldies :rl: , but hey i thought it was pretty sweet.
What are some stories when drifting has saved you .

sounds more like you lucked out, not to knock the fact that you saved your self from spinning out.

I never think when the back end kicks out. I think most people dont think. Your story happens to me about once every two days, if not more. Mainly from me pushing it too hard, and not bald tires. But it is good to hear that you do not have to think when a situation like that happens, since if you did, you could get hurt. If you have a bit more power, it will happen more often . The people that do have to think, will wreck their car. That means more availible parts for us.

well since you already called yourself an asshole, i won't point that out. only on a 240sx forum would we brag about losing grip accidentally and not crashing. ;) driver error is usually not something a racer would boast about.
one time i was in a two lane, one way road. i was in the left lane and a SUV was in the right lane. apparently the SUV thought it was a two way, two lane road and made a left turn RIGHT in front of me. i jerked the car to the left, countersteered and slid to a stop a few inches from the curb. i managed to make the left turn in front of the SUV. luckily she saw me and stopped. i probably cleared it by a few inches at most. that was scary.

the first night driving in the rain ever, back when i had my FX16 (FF) i went into a slide on a off ramp/interchange. i countersteered and pulled it out. my passenger made a big deal about it and how he didn't think he coulda made that save, but i was like, eh, whatever.
of course, first night driving my s14 in the rain i spun and crashed into a guard rail on the freeway onramp. lol
so it could be luck, or whatever, but you win some, you loose some.

that picture is hillarious. :) i enjoyed it.
btw you were quite lucky to pull that one off. little later and u wouldn't have made it.
For you guys that live in the bay area...this happened to me @ Go-Kart racer in Burlingame. At the north side of Adrian where you make a left from rollins road to Adrian. The intersection is closer to the corner exit when you come flying out ..i was going fairly fast around that turn..maybe 65-70 with some Azenis. I was just getting pumped up for some go karting action and i drove over the road's limit.

I lost traction a few times in the rain and just went with it...a little too much. :D
One time in my 84 Celica some bitch coming the opposite way cut in front of me to get in a parking lot. I went to swerve around her, then figured why bother (i was going only 30mph and didn't care at all about my $200 car). I slammed into the side of her 2002-ish Mercury Cougar, knocking her off the road and denting in her passanger door and quarter panel. My only damage was some of her white paint on my bumper. Haha she started crying and, knowing she was at fault, plended with me not to go my insurance company. I said I wouldn't cause I didn't care about my car. haha so that was my little revenge on all the cunts who cut me off while talking on their cell phones.

I don't think that correcting your back end from sliding out is considered drifting, is it? If so I'm a mad tyte drifta yo. I just consider it whipping my tail out.
