I recently got out of subaru's and into a VH swapped 1990 240sx, and none of the gauges in the dash work except for the fuel gauge, I saw a few people had gutted the cluster and filled it with aftermarket gauges, this is the route id like to take as well, my question is is there anything in the cluster that when not hooked up would cause issues with the car? For example, starting?

I feel like this is a dumb question but I just want to make sure before I dig into this, thanks!

The car will run fine without the cluster. You can unplug the cluster itself from there rear with 3 plugs. you can also unplug the cluster harness itself if you go just a little further back in the dash to the right. there are two plugs for that harness.

^I wouldnt be to sure about that statement, depending on how the previous owner wired it, greatly determines what electronics your car needs.

To the OP: you have a car with a completely different engine in it than what any of the s-chassis came with and you are asking disconnecting the cluster will affect "anything". Why wouldnt you just [email protected]#king disconnect the cluster and see what happens since you are going to be tearing it out anyways and save a useless post? I hope you have more technical skills and understanding than what your post portrays because you may have bigger issues to deal with like changing oil and rotating tires.

Good luck with your cluster, and looking forward to the post asking how to hook up an after market guages.

Jesus Christ dude, hahahaha. Slow the fuck down it's a simple question, I'm all ready quite a ways in to rewiring the car so starting it is not a option, thanks for your helpful post though like I said I'm new to the s chassis, and I doubt the dude wired anything new into the cluster harness considering most of the gauges don't work, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't something I didn't know about, have a fantastic day though lol.

Thanks for the reply zenki-s13(also for not getting so upset over a forum post, lol)

I think I can manage the first one with my poor technical skills, lol.

:) when your car doesn't start after you are finished with rewiring, double check your cluster is plugged in and you use your left hand to start the car, after you sat on it enough to make it numb :keke::keke:

Good luck!

This is true, you never really know.
I do not think you needed such a rude reply lol.

No problem man. I would suggest next time you have a question thats small like this just use the small questions thread. It is a sticky in the the chat forum. It would help from getting a mean response.
good luck with your wiring.
