my tranny has been acting funny ever since i bought the car. sometimes i would have trouble putting it into 1st gear without doing a complete neck snapping stop and sometimes it goes in just fine. so i plan to change the tranny fluid with some redline mt90 in hopes that it will cure the problem. i get my ratchet and go to remove the plug underneath the car and whoopy do some idiot cross-threaded the plug and super tightened it :spank:

from looking at the plug i can see "teeth" marks where it looks like someone was tightening it so hard that it left little scars kinda like how you strip a bolt and round its edges. so i try to loosen the bolt anyways with plans to get a new plug and even with a huge pipe as a breaker bar i cant budge it (mind you im 6' 180lbs, solid muscle, 2 hours at the gym everyday).

Not only that, but do you have a tap & die set to retap the thread once you do get it loose? You may need to tap a larger thread if it's badly damaged, and then need a larger plug.

But yeah, if you can't break it loose with a rachet and long extension, then not much else will break it free.

Most won't have access to impact wrenches.
Try:

If it's stripped, you might have to wedge some kind of wood chip or thick paper to fill the gap, so you don't keep stripping it

nah if its that fucked just drain it and fill it through the shifter.
thats what I had to do on my hatch. I broke a socket on it using a breaker bar and a floor jack and I said "fuck this."
impact wrench might work, using a torch might work too. but its easier just to pull the c clip and fill it from the top.

do what ace said... pb blaster, propane torch and as big a breaker bar as you can. then, instead of going under the car using your arms, get something to brace yourself on and position yourself to use both your legs to turn the wrench. yeah its a little ghetto, but if that doesn't work nothing will. your legs are typically much, much stronger then your arms.

why can't you drain?
just drop the driveshaft, that takes all of .. umm.. 5 minutes?
have a bucket ready, cause its a coming when that spline pops out.

even if you tilt the tranny you won't get all the fluid out... although i suppose that's better then not changing it at all.

drill and tap a new hole/bolt behind the orginal one...thread it the same size as the oem one and get one from nissan...
-thats if you're sure its screwed...by far the easiest

Sure you can do that, if your real tranny seal is done for. Otherwise, not much will drain out.

I also once hated c-clips, until I bought a tool specifically for them. It's been cake after that.
