Hey All~~!

Bought a s13 not too long, White smoke out back.
Pulled out the engine and yeup, it was the head gasket. :coolugh:
I also have an injector not firing correcting as the cylinder was completely dry and arid once the head was removed.

I was planning on taking my ka24e to a machine shop and getting it all cleaned up and dropping it back in.
Total would be about $1000. I don't want to purchase another engine and fear it will be shitty. :down:

Goals are to have a working car that I can use that will be reliable, but can also take it to the autocross or the track maybe once or twice a year. Nothing crazy,
mostly using this for my daily.

Also going to resurface my rotors since they're rusted to hell

Anything I should do while my engine is out? I was thinking of replacing the cam, but are there more cost efficient things I can do?
I'm out of work and will continue school for 2 years until I get back into the workforce.

I wouldn't rebuild a ka24e motor at that. To old and not enough parts out there to make any power.id start with buying a sr20 or ka24de swap and build around that.all that money and time into a ka24e seems pointless to me when you can get more of a bang for the buck with the other two motors

Same thought here, if you want more power.

If you don't, rebuild your engine if it totals 1000$. If it were me I'd throw in a new oil pump and water pump, and have the engine controlled for wear before putting it back together. If it need a new hone, new pistons or new valves, better know it now than when the engine is back together (this is not going to cost 1000$ though)

I"ve done some research about swapping a Dual-Cam.
I'd need more additional parts and I'd still have to clean the engine.

-Wiring harness (tach if you want the tach to work)
-ECU
-Power steering pump AND lines.
-A/C compressor and lines. (unless you can make a bracket for your original one.
-Distributor and coil
-Intake manifold
-Throttle cable/cruise cable(if you like things all nice and neat)
-Extension Piece that goes from butterfly to intake piping(again, if you like it nice and neat)
-MAF

I'm not sure, but are these parts easy to come by??

I have a buddy who runs a machine shop and will check the engine, clean it and we'll get it back looking purrty.
New hone, pistons, and vavles would cost more, and then it'd be better to get the dual cam. Forsure. But I'm really not trying to spend more than $1500 TOTAL to get it on the road again.

If you're on a budget why not find a running KAE and drop it in there until you can save up for something "better"? The experience alone in swapping out the engine will be beneficial for your next swap.

I'm not sure where I'll be or if I'll ever get more money and time to spend on a project like this. I spend most my time on computers.

I was wondering if someone could double check my order list.

I. Does the grade of bearings matter? Standard Rod and Main Bearings?
II. Does the thickness of the Cometic Head Gasket matter?
III. I'm buying ARP Headbolts/studs. Do I need ARP Main Stud/bolt kit?
IV. Chain timing sets are about $150 or so right?
V. Am I looking for the Oil Pump Assembly? Cover?
