Hey what's up guys, been a while since Ive been on here (since high school and I'm 24 now holy crap time flies) Anyway Il be doing my ka dual cam rebuild soon and am wondering what specific part, if any, is the weak point for these motors to fail at consistent high rpm's. This car is going to be focused as a canyon runner for the outskirts of town which consists running close to redline and alot of uper rpm abuse. Apart from a stronger head gasket/head bolts, any other suggestions? I had an s13 kade blow a rod into my oil pan once after pushing to redline for extended time. Is that a rare occasion or is that another weak point that would give problems as well? That night my car was low on oil and my smarta** forgot to top her off. Any help from some ka gurus and experts would greatly be appreciated! Thanks in advance guys

Shorter stroke and fully counterbalanced would go a long way..... Or rebuilds every hundred hours or so.....
Keep it under 7k for longevity.

After rereading that, running at redline can reduce the life if the motor. But if you aren't going for flat out 6500+ you're fine ARP everything and good bearings.
Thought you were trying to go higher

KA24DE makes peak power 3,500-5,000 rpm. The powerband drops off substantially past 6,000 rpm.
There is no reason to rev a KA that high. Chose a higher gear instead of redlining it.

^^This is kind of what I was thinking.
As for bearings with longevity in mind- can't go wrong with OEM Nissan.

Well to be a bit more clear I'd like to be able to use the entire power band up to and including 7k for extended periods, looking to get cams and custom made header and exhaust system to release a bit more top end power, might just go with the typical 248/248 setup and an actual tune. And I don't want to rebuild entire engine every hundred hours as someone mentioned. Basically I want a bulletproof ka to be able to take redline and ocassional rev limiter hits without breaking a sweat.

The bottom end and valvetrain are bulletproof to 7k. Use good oil and add an oil cooler to keep the temps down. Youre also going to have to build the head and get an aftermarket intake manifold with shorter runners to make power past 6k. Even then, the gains up top aren't worth the losses in torque down below.

If you want a bulletproof engine that is never going to need a rebuild, you need a stock engine...
Do you know how much this is going to cost you ? I can't see the point in doing this, from a financial point of view. If you are going to dump 6000$ in an engine, there are better ways than spend it on a KA.

Budget as of now is ~ 3k and was hoping on having this build as stock looking as possible. Not looking for hp increases in great numbers but freeing up some ponys along the way would be nice. definitely looking into an oil cooler setup though, gunna see if there's a write up on here or if anyone has a link that'd be awesome. I'm excited about the idea of a fresh ka, no sludge, no hard build up, everything new, that alone and to be able to run 5w-20 synthetic oil would be a milestone!

I'd just swap in a SR for $3k..More revs, power and potential right out of the box

ok. I just want the ka. I want the ka to bounce off the limiter without a sweat if Im punching it and not looking at my tach (which I never do driving the canyons) ..for some reason this thread is getting more complicated than what I originally asked lol :drama:

Do a cam swap to make the power band later
