june 10th i paid $3200 for a ka and manny swap from a 98 to 89 240sx. i have gone down there twice since then to see what other parts they need. and said the total will come close to $3800 to $4000. they have never called me once to tell me what is going on. they don't even have my car, its still sitting in my garage. how long should i wait before i ask for my money back?

i would suppose if he's from hawaii, the price for most things are quite inflated.

you should probably check with other 240 owners for the price they get for installs and such. i've seen some people from hawaii who say that on the mainland the prices are cheap.

can anyone confirm?

llucky13
08-05-2004, 12:39 PM
yes please if anyone from hawaii how much do you usally pay for swap

so how many people have a ka motorset on the island. and how much is the average labor rate compared to the rest of the country.

labor will vary and so will supply and demand. you may have the motor, but how many other people will have the same thing there.

the swap i mentioned is from xat. im pretty sure they rebuild the engines as well. they have about a million ka's laying around from doing sr20det swaps sooooo.....

but also its a freakin KA swap. the engine ain't coming from japan. its already on the island.

on the mainland...

used ka +tranny = 200-500 bucks
labor = 1k or so.

should run you anywhere from 1000-1500. 2k TOPS. i've herad of ppl having it done for under 800 bucks.

quick check revealed that hawaii has a population of 1,257,608 in 2003. and on an island how many people have a 240sx or even anyone with spare ka motors.
and let's suppose you live in honolulu(the largest population of 902,704 in 2003.)
and if the ka motor needs to be outsourced, how much would shipping cost about.

mk20116

aren't ka motors from the usa and surrounding countries? i don't know.

Although its going to hawaii, a KA motorset (95-98) isn't that hard to find. It just takes some time to find a decent freighting company that will ship at a good price...

Lesson 1. Some mechanics, will not cheat you out of your money, but overall, that's a mechanics job, they're all mostly hired to lie and get the most money as they can out of you. I took an auto class in highschool, and that's basically what my mechanics teacher told us. They're going to lie to you, no matter what. Some will even do a sloppy job on your car, just so when something happens again to it, you'll go back to them and have it fixed again. Now I'm not all mechanics do this, but most mechanics, who'll assume that you're gullible...which were in this case, will continue to suck your wallet dry. Dang with that kinda money, I'd be happy with a 89 240, or better yet, a s14.

they dont do a sloppy job to get u bacvk there, its called flat rate!! each repair is rated at a certin time, u get paid for that much time weather it takes longer or shorter, so in order to make more money u have to work faster than the status quoe which gets ppl rushing to make more money!!

and as far as the topic at hand, i have a 91 KA , SR BOV, Boost Gauge, Custome I/C Piping, Custom Exhaust Manifold & down pipe, T25 Turbo, RB26DETT 444cc Injectors, SPEC Stage 4 Clutch, Apex’i Rev/Speed Meter, Walbro Fuel Pump and i highly doubt that i have broken even a grad with all these parts!! i did get some for free but even if i did, i would still be far from 4 grand. and plus i am installing it myself so theres savings there too.

like everyone says UR GETTING FUCKED UP THE ASS w/o lube

aww thats shitty... do it yourself! save the money for your turbo kit and you could have it NOW. friend paid $500 to have new ka installed. just get a group of friends and a cherry picker and have fun, it aint that hard plus if somethin does go wrong... you know where its at and can fix it. crateing it from cali shouldnt be to expensive... and invest in some soap on a rope so this dosent happen again!

i think it is cheaper if u do fly someone there (a package tour cost liek less than 1g for a person) . and for 3grand for sure you u can get the person u are flying down to bring over a KA with tranny .

you could easily source an SR clip from australia and have it shipped by boat to your island for around the same price if not less. you are seriously getting ripped off because that kind of price is absurd. no offence, but it sounds like you're not using your own money to do this, maybe your parents, because the rest of us 240 owners would never spend our hard earned money, especially that much, for a simple KA swap, ESPECIALLY into an '89 S13. granted, i have an S13 coupe, but there is NO way i would EVER spend more than a few hundred for a KA, and i would still install it myself. sorry dude, but they bent you over and are giving it to you pretty hard on this one. let it at least be a lesson for the future

Masa

i pmed you w/ a hawaii forum that has many capable 240 owners that can help you w/ the sourcing and possible install of a ka or sr.
