So a quick background:
I got myself a mostly clean 91 240sx for 700$
Aside from its few odd issues that every car this age has, the only major problem with it is the engine at 200k miles burns alot of oil.
I think its the valve stem seals but I planned a full rebuild anyway.
I want to build this engine N/A for the foreseeable future.
I plan to DD this car and use if for my delivery driver job would like a highly street-able and torque filled power-band while staying with good MPGs and I think the N/A KA does what I want. I don't wana hear the go turbo or SR20 arguments because I already considered that and IMO SR<KA.
So this is the first time I will be rebuilding an engine in my life. Everything I have learned about cars I have learned off the internet. However, I am highly confident in my knowledge and skills and also in doing this job myself.
However I have a few questions about machine work and to make sure I have all the parts I need and quality parts at that on my list.
I plan on using the following parts:
KING main/rod bearings
0.5mm oversized valves (briancrower or supertech)
248/248 cam swap
.20 overbore NPR SohC KA pistons and NPR rings for 11.1:1 compression (93-95 octane available here) IF i decide to spray the engine, I will use 10.5:1 JE forged pistons with a wet shot on c16 or something similar.
Domestic Gaskets basic gasket set w/ felpro HG/valve stem seals and thermal intake gaskets
ARP head studs
Crank scraper
Windage tray
OEM timing components
OEM or equal/better oil pump
OEM water pump
OEM exp plug set
dual oil filters/larger high-flow filter
dual core radiator
Quality part selection?
Everything there?
Anything there that I could save money on?
Do I need cam bearings?
Should I invest In dual valve springs? Maybe raise the RPM limit? Will the heads flow enough with machine work and bolt ons?
Now for machine work:
I know I need hot tanking magnufluxing baking shot peening etc
I know I need a .20 overbore with the torque plate installed and a hone
I am getting the heads polished.
I am getting the oversized valve job done
I am getting the crank polished
I am getting the rotating assy balanced
Do I need the top of the block or bottom of head decked for new HG? How can I tell?
How do I tell if I need oversized bearings/line honing?
Will porting as well as polishing heads yield gains NA? Especially with dual valve springs, balanced rotating assy and higher RPM limits?
Worth it to knife edge the crank?
And last but not least,
Did I miss anything?
I know its alot. Thanks for the help.
