View Full Version : Ka-E Pistions in DE w/ wet N2O. Power/shot limits, safety, and reliability?

So I am planning a full rebuild of my ka24de soon.
I will be doing
CAI, t/b, s14 intake mani w/ aftermarket plenum, port and polish heads n maybe manifold, 0.5mm over valves, 3 or 5 angle valve job, 248/248 cams, 11.1:1 ka24e piston swap (NPR pistons), 20 overbore, every bearing/seal/gasket, crank scraper, windage tray, 4-2-1 headers, test pipe with 3' cutout to 24" glasspack under car, alternator upgrade, fan delete, p/s delete, a/c delete, msd blaster ignition, ecu tune, L/W flywheel (9lb)
Given this engine build is using E pistons in a DE, runs high compression, will already be putting out quite the TQ for stock pistons w/o the shot, and I lack nitrous experience I thought I would come here and ask what the forums think of my idea to spray this motor.
I plan to spray wet with 93/4 octane in the tank and 100+ in the spray. I can get up to 113 octane if needed but I can only easily get 101/2/3 octane so it will mostly be that.
I mainly want to know if people think its a crazy idea and will pop my motor for sure and why? I don't care if I will blow my welds on my intake (kid) every now n then... as long as the motors okay.
My goal however would be 300ish crank HP after the shot (215-25 before) and only spray in 3rd gear/3800/4k rpm and up or half shot in 2nd.
However, If this build is spray-able w/ 50+ shot safely I would like to do it.
I hope this is do-able as that would be a BAAAAAAD car w/ how light my s13 is after being. fully gutted w/ l/w DS/wheels/hood/etc.
However if I am crazy, tell me why, and if I can fix it, how?
Thanks for your time.

I hope you are a mechanic, because building a ka will be a full time job. GL
Sounds complicated. What's the purpose of this engine?
11:1 compression I suggest you run e85 with a dedicated fuel system for the nitrous. I'm sure you can get away with a 100 shot on c16 or so...(leaded 110oct)

Not a mechanic, just highly knowledgeable and dedicated delivery driver with 3 to 4 day weekends. Been to school for this stuff for 2 months. Never completed the program as it sucked and I am saving up to go elsewhere. Thinking about UTI in cali but I am not sure thats the best and only the best will make me happy as I have a burning hot passion for this.
Engine will be used for daily driving, delivering subs for Jimmy Johns, with a track day or two a month, n some "use" in random mountain back-roads at "certain times".
I am trying to get the car to be as fuel efficient as I can while maintaining reliability and being decently quick as I would like to use it for my work cuz quick w/ good mpgs n rebuilt motor = large tips and less lost to fuel and upkeep. I currently AVG 12 ish an hour (after gas, before wear costs) w/ a slow, fuel thirsty-ish (avg 15mpgs delivering in the outskirts of the city) 4 door sedan n I am hoping to get it up to about 15$/hour with this car Thus the reason I am not boosting it but I do want that N2O rush every now n then and the only "raw" power mod I have are mild A/F cams and everything else is more of an efficiency power mod. I also want the rebuild to hold for 100-125k mi or more. Preferably 200k.
I have about $2,500 to put into this motor n I think I will only need a bit more than half that not including the nos.
[email protected], your saying e85, is this the primary system fuel w/ the spray or the wet shot fuel?
If its primary, I can't run it every day, only track days, but I dont need nos to deliver subs so thats okay =)

Are you the guy I sold my old clutch line to a few days ago? haha.
Pretty ambitious plan, I feel like you've watched too much F&F haha. There's much easier and probably cheaper ways of attaining 300whp and will be more reliable.
Well I mean cause it's going to be high comp. 11:1 would LOVE the e85. And yes, I meant as the primary fuel system. The aux fuel system being a wet shot with 110 Oct/c16 in the track. I guess you can keep it on 91 octane or whatever you have available but you won't get full advantage of the power it can make

Put real pistons in it. Wiseco has an off the shelf 10.5:1 forged piston. The 100 shot will be fine on a forged piston.

@bmaddok LMAO! Small world man.
I got the 5 speed swap done! I am having imbalance in the center bearing. if i cant work it out, I might buy your driveshaft after all!
So I am guess the general consensus is that I can not do this reliably with the setup I have as I would need better pistons or ALOT better fuel?
I am broke. I cant afford these better pistons and its seems that this nos idea is quickly looking alot more than I had thought. I don't need 300whp... just 200 or so. I just thought this would be a good idea for drag/track use and occasional extra fun.
And believe it or not, I have never seen a fast n furious movie...

ka24de is an engine that dosent make alot of power no matter how much you build it without a turbo and adding nos to that little engine with those high comps pistons will stress out the motor too much to be reliable.
i would look into a 1uz v8 conversion since its near your budget if you do the work, their reliable, their cheap and they are everywhere. people have got the whole engine at a junkyard for $250 on half days off. their in ls400 and sc400 and you can use your ka trans
and they can handle a nitrous 150hp shot all day
research but something to start you off

you dont look that much informed on nitrous, this should help

^^^Seriously? 1uz would cost wayyy more than just $250.. Mounts, driveshaft, wiring, trans adapters.. clutch kit.. More like 1500-2k. I would say go head and get a SR swap (1500) and you good for 200-250hp with minor bolts on. Don't spend your money on a nitrous kit, def. Not worth it. GL

bro...:picardfp: i said you can get the motor for that much. not the total cost of the swap. he says he has $2500 to spend. i said the swap would end up costing in that range if he did the work
