View Full Version : sr20det high oil pressure.
Ok, before I say anything I have searched google, forums, etc but everyone seems to say diff numbers as to what the oil pressure should be.....
What I basically gathered was at idle 20 to 35psi warm and anywhere from 60-100psi cold.
Well then you have my idle pressures, which are 150psi cold at warm up idle(1600rpm) and 50psi warm...... it's at 150psi until it gets about 50-56c and then starts dropping slowly to 50psi.
Running 10w40 with alittle lucas. I change the oil every 1k or after an event. Car is not daily driven. The oil pump and bearings were done 20k miles ago, with the correct tolerances.
I dont have any oil leaks yet, but at those pressures im sure I will soon.
......................nothing?

There is only one source of truth for this, and that is called the FSM. It states there only is a minimum pressure at idle, and a window of ideal pressure at higher rpm. I suggest you start by following that.
If your readings are out, try with another sender/gauge combo.
If they are still out, you can start wondering about your oil pressure relief valve being stuck a bit.

What the hell is this ?
I change the oil every 1k or after an event.
That is useless, we are not in 1940. Unless you spend more than a year between 2 events, then yes, that is a good idea.
oil is rotella, lucas is an oil stabilizer, and i change my oil that often because it's cheap to do and keep fresh unburnt oil in my motor. I autox 2 times a month and do track days.
The issue was the new sender I ordered was bad.

There is no need to change your oil every 1000 miles (ESPECIALLY for a low stress environemnt like autox).
It's not cheap, it's a waste of money..........
Last I checked, those dry starts moments right after an oil change are MUCH more damaging than having oil changed every 3-4 thousand miles (basically no oil pressure starts for a couple seconds). Now you are enacting those damaging moments 3-4 times MORE often than if you change your oil every 3-4 thousand miles.......
But hey, it's not my engine so it really doesn't matter :)
As mentioned, followed the FSM. The Nissan Engineers probably knew what they were doing since they are the ones that developed the engine and operating procedures.
Thanks for your opinion, i'll keep it in mind. Our autox is huge, we hit third gear and then back down to first on and off in Georgia heat, some see speeds above 78mph you'd be surprised how many people, even newer cars break down here there. Macon's autox is not so bad, because the course is small and you are never in wot hardly. Then most drive our cars back down, after driving up.
I been doing it this way on this engine for 6 years with no issues, not gonna change what I am doing now. 20$ really isnt anything if you really think about it, imo atleast.

Again, autox is a low stress environment. When you start banging off FIA approved curbes, WOT throttle for 10-12 seconds at a time per lap (15-18 times), braking from 140+ MPH down to 40, and launching out of a 2nd gear corner and rowing through to the top of 4th for 20-30 mins at a time, then come talk to me about "stress" and heat.
My one lap encompasses (literally in terms of time and stress) about 3-4 autocrosses FYI in the summertime heat at 350-400 WHP. And to think, I do that for 15-18 laps at a time. So I essentially did 40+ autocrosses for ONE session on track (I typically do 4-5 a day!!!!!)
But again, not my engine, yoo do what you want.
Yes I do track event as well plus autox. um... still not going to switch up what i'm doing.

What engine setup and HP is your car currently making??
sr20 redtop 11b gt2867r @ 23psi, 432whp Nothing crazy in power or anything, for me 400 is too much for most autox courses anyway. Stock everything besides refreshed bearings and cryoed, yard motor bought 7 years ago and has ran this setup for 5+ years, no issues. I also have a e85 tune as well, which i run 28psi. It's not ideal for autox but it's fun to drive in it, had a gt2860rs and just spun when i would exit corners at 50% throttle spool time was stupid fast, got better times when i had the gtir t28.
It's a fun car. It was my first and only 240.... just kinda stuck.

I see you solved your problem but I'm hopping in any way. I live just out side of philly and there are hardly any auto x and track days up here besides drift (meh). Where are you guys shredding? I see one of you is in md and the other in ga. I wonder if any of the tracks are close/ fun enough for me to make a trek down your way? Maybe pm me if either of you feels like chatting. Thanks guys
Here I have AMP or Road Atlanta 1h m30 away. There is Dothan, Al autox which is the biggiest one near me, and then Macon Georgia which hosts a scca event in a parking lot area.

Sorry, painted you as a typical "Zilvian" with no knowledge base or common sense. I have since been mistaken ;)
Carry on!
