Picked this up recently, and its 100% stock Automatic KA24DE. What should I do first? I'm definetly going KA-T with a 5 speed trans but what makes a good first couple of mods? Have some pics http://imgur.com/a/61XQh

Spraypaint polka dots on it.

Nice and clean. Keep it that way for sure.
Lowering springs with upgraded struts never hurt anyone, or coil overs if you wanna go that route.
On the other hand after market wheels are a good start, then you can give me your stock se wheels :P

Before or after the KA-T?

Before or after the KA-T?
Might as well do it at the same time as replacing the control arms after rearranging a curb.

Why the fuck would you haphazardly throw "mods" at that?
If you have not identified a clear problem that you want to fix or area that you want to improve, and a clear path to that improvement, do nothing.
But if you insist, look into good dampers and springs, a helical or other grown-up differential, and shorter wider high quality tires.
This should not be construed to mean any of the changes you're about to go make, like jackass coilovers, jackass welded/2way diff, or jackass 17s.

damn that looks minty. coils, reasonable wheels. drive it. dont crash it. avoid crashing it. then dont crash it some more.
maybe along the way swap sr and do it right. keep it clean for fuck sake.

coils, strut bars, nice wheels tires, steering wheel, seat, LSD, adjustable arms, Hella H4 headlight housings....
keep it clean. Spend the money on nicer quality stuff. Look for cars in the hatchback thread/kouki aero thread for inspiration.

wow that is clean.
first mod should be to yourself, study this:
http://zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=569490
and this:
http://zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=577517
now that you're a better person having read that, take your time learning the vehicle.
never skip out on maintenance, i made that mistake when i was young and paid for it dearly with a new motor set up and being sidelined for two years.
get to know the car and identify problem areas/areas of preference you'd like to modify. please take care of it, clean ones like that are disappearing every day. and just say "no" to ratchet. don't wuss out and purchase fake parts

Yeah, better make that car bouncy, have the maximum rotating mass and gyroscopic handling problems possible, tell everybody you're a poser with an expensive pointless racing wheel and seat in your low power 4banger, and shatter your spine on every pebble you even look at - good plan.
....hella's fine, though.
(I mean, that might be a fine plan, with a rescued missile or something - but it's bloody stupid with that particular car)

no mods!

Really nice clean car! Congrats! Save money and spend it on quality, drive it and enjoy it. I have a 97 and drive it everyday, only mods so far are z32 brakes all the way around with ebrake coming and z32 brake master cylinder waiting to be installed.

Seriously, do what they're saying. Keep the car stock. For the love of gandhi.
It will be a gem in 20 years.
only about 250,000 240sx were produced in the US. Think of how many were wrecked between 1989 and Now. Be it drunk driving accidents, rear end collisions, or what seems to be the most common, drifting....A lot of them have been wiped out. Think of how many more will be within 20 more years
These cars will be rare one day.

OP you seem to following the Dumbass crowd and heading towards decimating a beautiful example of a car....the car itself is easy to find, the conditon it THAT car is quite rare.
Now i see you reside in the great state Texas...if you insist on "modding" A 240 i can provide you with a "drifter" starter kit so you can mod that car instead...id be more that happy to work out a deal with you....I am NOT joking...PM me if you have any interest....
Pic and specs of the drifter dream starter kit, it runs well, has the front end with matching paint, no interior panels except the dash, KTS coils, pbm solid mounts on the rear subframe, welded diff, s14 KA24DE with 5 speed.

If I didn't live days of driving away from the rest of texas, I would almost be interested.
Seriously, OP, think about it. Even if you don't want to drift and just want to turn wrenches and change stuff yourself - which is lots of fun and totally respectable - look into a car that goes good but isn't a perfect untouched stock car, like this one. It can look just fine, and maybe drive better, but not destroy something perfect like that.
I'm going to add to my previous advice: don't even 5spd it. manual is great fun, and generally I think all cars should be manual - but you have a beautiful untouched auto, and the sad fact is (hard as it is for me to say, as I love my manual 240) that the 240 has the absolute worst manual transmission I've ever touched. It's loose and nasty, syncronizes badly, can shift strait past the synchros and grind, first is often impossible to hit, or impossible to not grind, etc. Is this partly because mine's worn? Sure, maybe, but I regularly drive other manuals with many more miles, with perfect transmissions that don't suck. Automatics feel like cheating and all, but for a perfect car that you're not (should not) going to drive hard or drift into stuff, you'll be a lot happier with an automatic - and without having to come to almost a full goddamn stop to lurch into first, and all that crap. You'll regret it if you swap it, even if you lie to yourself that you're happy - again not with every 240, but, with that one, for sure.
If you don't believe me, go find someone who will let you drive their manual 240. If you've ever driven ANY other manual, you'll understand. Our 5spd sucks a bag of dicks, and then a few more dicks, and that's before it even eats breakfast.

yea totally don't swap to a manual because its hard to put in first when you come to a rolling stop? :tweak:
Agreed though that the trans is not "so amazing". My ca18det trans is rough around the edges. but still why the fuck would you want an automatic trans in such a fun car like an s13? swap that shit, I think you're being a little bit picky dude, its probably just your trans. try a short shifter, it tends to really make the throws feel more precise in my opnion
OP, have patience! buy quality parts! enjoy the ride.

hahahahahahahahahahha this made my day. You sir are a complete idiot.
Lets hear what mods you'd do? lemme guess cut springs because you don't wanna "shatter your spine," buy rotas or xxr because why spend money on nice wheels because "they're all made the same," keep the stock seat because all you'll be doing is buying womens panties at wal mart, and swap a v8 into it because shit why spend money on a "low power 4banger."
yup you're completely right im a "poser"
missle? this has the stench of hoonigan drift missile fanboy all over it.
