Hey guys, I currently drive an infiniti G20, and I absolutely love the car, but I am looking to get a 240SX. I actually had left my options open to Preludes, 240SX's, 200SX's/SE-R's, or a manual G20, but then I test drove an '89 S13. I fell in love with RWD. I definately want a 240SX, S13 or S14, doesn't really matter. I'm just wondering if there are any specific issues with 240SX's I should look out for while I'm shopping for a car?

Thanks!

Check for rust, engine problems, and make sure it doesnt leak if you are looking to get a 240 with a sunroof. BTW, be prepared to pay out the butthole to find one in good condition. I got lucky cause i found my S14 from my dad's friend. Again, very rare will you find a 240 in perfect working order. There will ALWAYS be something wrong with it. Check the for sale section for cars.

I've learned that while looking for a 240SX for the past two months. I looked in the for sale section of this site, but it seems I cannot access it unless I have premium membership? or am I doing something wrong?

northern nj? i live in north NJ too.

89-90 - s13 sohc timing chain rattle = costly or time consuming. avoid it!

91-94 - s13 dohc, reliable. timing chain rattle = ez fix no big deal. use it as a bargaining chip. look for rust, leaky seals, blown shocks, etc. same old with any old car.

95-96 - s14 dohc. the cheaper s14. its a girls car. i have one. concerns = same as the 91-94.

97-98 - s14mc. same car with slanty chinky headlights. b/c of the headlights, it tends to be much more expensive then the 95-96. i would avoid it, unless u really like the styling. they probably won't have problems as they're much newer. of course they're uber rare, esp in 5spd.

240sx is a easy and cheap car to own, assuming you don't mind working doing alot of stuff yourself. i think it would get expensive if u paid ppl to work on it all the time; as it does have alot of small issues that pop up.

S13 stuff that you'll have to deal with:

- tons of dings
- old paint
- blown shocks
- worn out bushings
- power drivers window won't roll down
- some body panels improperly aligned
- scrapes and chips on the zenki lip (if its on the car)
- rust in a lot of tiny places on the car
- if it has rear spoiler it will be rusty and almost certainly have eaten away some metal
- blown rear hatch gas struts
- irritating auto seatbelts
- worn out interior

thats basically what i've found to be true on every S13 i checked out before acquiring mine but hey, you can't give life back to something that isn't dead :)

yea best bet shop around for s14, i looked at 2 zenkis before i had my car, both had little to no issues, mostly cosmetic. but other than that its a reliable daily driver. or you can mod it. whatever. who gives a fuck.

Thanks guys, I appreciate all the advice. Honestly, I don't even really need a car to drive aroudn too much, I want to buy this ride so I can work on it. I love fixing shit in broken cars, haha. The g20 is a shared car between me and my mother, and I've saved my parents a boatload of money fixing little things on that car myself. It's time for my own car to fix tho.

and about the for sale forum... I dunno wierd stuff... I coudln't access it when I tried before, but I go to it now and it works.... I have no idea.....

DaPCWiz,
I have a 93 Nissan 240sx se hatchback I will probably be selling in the next six months. Here's the info. The car runs beautifully. There is no rust. The interior has wear and tear. It's not perfect, but it's fun.

Let me know what kinds of details you want.

the 200sx is the ugliest of those cars!! I dislike those cars, id have a civic over it since they are the same catagory of car type.
