My friend wants this Datsun 510 on ebay right now. Says it comes with a CA18et, but I'm 99% sure it's a CA18det. anyways, my friend wants to put an SR20 in the 510, and said I could have the motor for next to nothing. I have an SR20 in my 89 hatch, but I could use a motor for my 90 hatch as well. I never did a whole lot of research on the CA18, and I know the auction is very vague, but could someone try to guess what this motor is worth. I know it will be just a guess since there's little info, but any advice would be appreciated.

Yeah, its a CA18ET. It could be a fun motor with some work but probably more work than you seem to want. Besides the one cam thing, you can tell its different cuz the intake manifold is much different. Only the first-gen CAs came with that non-intercooled, over-the-valve covers piping design. The later CA18s came with an intake manifold with 8ports and butterfly valves in Japan and 4port intake manifold in the UK. IIRC the block is the same but the tranny and clutch are different so it wouldnt do much good for your 240, besides the fact that it is underpowered.

thanks for the info. Yeah, I'll probably steer clear of it since it's not the more popular twin cam.

i see 8 valves and one timing belt gear, looks to me like a ca18et like the auction says, oh yea, the ca18det has 2 separate valve covers, this is a picture of my motor, ca18det has no rocker arms.
