TL; DR -- WOT. No power. Rich as fuck. Gotta be ignition. Right? Backfires like hell after I let off. Revs fine, idles fine. Any kind of load, you can hear the turbo spooling great, gets louder, no real acceleration. Doesn't buck though.

So a couple weeks ago some thieves came through my apartment complex and broke into my car, stealing most of my tools out of the trunk and shit. That plays into the story in a minute.

Fast forward to several days ago, I fired up my car to head to work, no suspicious stuff until I backed out of my spot and before I could react, it seemed to lazily just die off. Like it ran out of fuel... so I immediately think "Fuckin thieves siphoned my gas...?" Because some neighbors in my complex said they noticed they'd been fueling up more often.

So I push it back to my parking spot and leave it, take the girlfriend's car to work. Come home, grab a gas can, pour 3.5 gallons in the car... 10:30pm... still won't start, even after priming the pump a few times. Now I'm suspecting they might have sabotaged my tank or some shit.

Wait til following morning, almost fires, seems like it wants to hit on a cylinder or two, and tried a little more when I attempted starting it at WOT for a few cranks but still wouldn't hit.

This morning I hop in it, try it, priming pump a few times, today is considerably warmer. It finally hits and fires up like nothing was wrong so I'm like "Okay it finally got enough fuel to pick up in the lines..." and babied it to the gas station .7 miles away.

Prayed that it'd start up and run fine, on return trip I noticed it sounded like the turbo was spooling more than normal... then noticed I could go WOT all I wanted, it got louder but really didn't accelerate at all. Back in parking spot at home and noticed it Revs fine, and idles just fine. and the turbo sounds like it's working fine...

I'm leaning towards coils, but is there some way of knowing without throwing parts at it? My tools were all stolen so I really don't have much in the way of jerking all of it apart. I just have super basic shit on hand.

Anyone willing to help me troubleshoot this?

Check for exhaust leaks, specifically the turbo to manifold gasket area. No vacuum leaks? Do you have a boost/vacuum gauge hooked up to help diagnose?

No vacuum leak that I'm aware of. I mean it's possible that I'm getting a leak on the turbine. Will it really do that? I just replaced the head gasket recently and my manifold to turbine has 3/4 bolts on it I think.

The slightest gap in the gasket area will allow exhaust leakage and destroy the gasket pretty quickly. At least verify the nuts haven't started backing off. Those nut-locking tabs are not that great :-/

Yeah I figured as much, they didn't look all that fantastic to begin with. Lemme go check em out real fast.

The 3 nuts on the manifold flange, out of 4, are tight, and there's no gap in the flanges or gasket. So I mean it can't be TOO great, but doesn't appear to have any signs of exhaust gasses escaping or anything. And it still makes boost. Got no gauge though.

Got a new inlet gasket coming in the mail.

Anyone know where to find the inlet/manifold flange nuts? They seem to be a special type of hardness, I guess for the heat resistance... I don't expect to be able to get them from Lowe's or something... something tells me they wouldn't stand up to the heat cycles.

Any Grade 8 nut will be fine but you need to use these to keep them from backing off.

So I bought a set of Red Coils to swap out with the other set of stockers I have.

Anyone know of any way to identify if they're S2 or S1? I know about the internal ignitor thing, but I'm talking .... are they the same plug? Do they LOOK a certain way? Anything?

Anyway, I swapped them out and have absolutely zero fire. Old plugs were BCPR6ES NGK-R's gapped at about 0.9, Advance didn't have any so I just took a set of AC Delco 41-602's because the computer had them as a usable alternative and they're gapped at 1.1. Which I've heard is doable with new coils... but again, getting no fire with either set. So... any help would be appreciated

Well that's official. Jokes on me. Bought S1's unknowingly. Fun fun fun.
