View Full Version : 30mm Z32 calipers w/ S13 SE OEM wheels

I know the 26mm Z32 calipers fit behind the S13 SE wheels with "single offset ribs" in the back. My problem is the S13 I have now has the double ribbed SE wheels. What size spacers would be needed to make the 30mm calipers fit?
Has anyone done this?

Also, I have never used spacers before, I know to get hub-centric, and if I need wider than 5mm should I get ones that bolt on to the studs and have their own studs on the spacer?
Just wondering if getting 20mm spacers will be wide enough or too much...

thanks in advance

You should be fine with a slip on spacer up to 7mm. Beyond that? Go hubcentric bolt on and make sure your wheels have that little pocket for your OEM studs to recess into...

Thanks, mine have pockets. I made sure to check! Lol.
Anyone done this before or know the added millimeters going from stock to 30mm sized calipers?

Think a 15mm hub centric bolt-on will work?

want some cheap advice

upgrade to wider wheels. z brakes with stock wheels = easy to lock brakes

That's not cheap advice, that's great advice. Thanks, even stickier tires on stock wheels will suck compared to wider and sticky. Also I have no abs so sliding forward could be a big problem.

Even better advice:

Dont do just the front brakes. Do the front, rear and master cylinder. This IS the proper way to do it and anyone who disagrees has no fucking idea what they are talking about.

This also includes 5-lug and wheels. Though, you could get by for a little bit by drilling the rotors. Personally, just do the entire upgrade and be done with it.

Another piece of advice: use OEM hubs, not aftermarket. Even used hubs are better than the cheap aftermarket junk.

Cliff notes:
8" wide wheels (z32 or r32 for example)
225 or 245 width tires
4 pot front calipers
2 pot rear calipers
z32 bmc
stainless brake lines f/r
ebrake cables (or modify yours)
5-lug hubs

enjoy

I was told that a z31 BMC works well for an s13 with z32 calipers all around? And has all three flare fittings for my non abs lines. 15/16 I think. Any input?

I dont understand the concept here.

The Z32 brake system, complete. Everything. Understand?

Why are you talking about the Z31, and what the fuck does it have to do with Z32 brake system?

I did everything mentioned above but I didn't bother with new bmc. Pedal feels fine.

7mm will do well enough, just be sure you have enough threads on the lugs.

1) taking apart the calipers is no bueno. the steel caliper bolts typically seize onto the aluminum halves and gall when you try to remove.

2) stay away from cheap spacers, they dont allow the heat to transfer (and dissipate) and you end up overheating the brakes. if you run spacers, buy some quality billet hub-centric spacers from fred @ wheeladapter.com

cliff notes:

1) dont take apart the caliper halves. if you need to paint or powdercoat them, do it with them assembled. the o-rings can easily deal with 300-400 degrees. taking the calipers apart is pointless.

2) buy proper wheels/tires, skip the spacers.

3) dont be stupid, install the brake master cylinder
